soft top fitted!

A quick post to say that I have just managed to fit a new OEM vinyl top to my Mk1 (expensively shipped from Japan but can’t trust a mohair in 36C sun & tropical downpours).

I have zero experience but was more concerned about the local garage (the only alt here in Brunei) ruining my investment.

All in all it took ~8-10 hours along with photo’s, documentation and trips to the local cushion makers (the only way I could get the old rivets removed and new ones added).

The only frustrations were trying to remove the rear most spongy door window seal (a nightmare to get at from below with the frame down) and making sure the cable running down the side of the hood (connecting top rivet with btm spring) was in the correct place.

The end product looks great, tight as a drum and alot quieter on the road than the old rag. Can heartly recommend the process as you really get to know the inside of your car (for us complete beginners) - summarised it all in a word doc if anyone needs advice!

 Hey,

Congrats pal…massive achievement me thinks for a beginner.  I’m looking at Monday to start the preliminary removal of the old one, as I have the hard top i can do the project over a couple of weekends hopefully.

I would definately apreciate the summary document.

Thanks,

Andrew
