Hi just an update
The old battery (less than five years old) will not hold a charge so I guess I will have to bit the bullet and purchase the OEM Panasonic battery with the solar charger and leave the charger connected when the car is not in use to maintain the battery charge.
My garage told me that running the battery down to zero usually means that these batteries will not recover so to avoid this happening again then a solar trickle charger should solve the problem especially here in Spain
