SOLENT AREA - Wednesday 18th February 2026: A visit to The Red Lion, Horndean for supper and a talk by Dave Burden on diving on the raising of the Mary Rose

Hi Kim,

Yes, you are on the spreadsheet and I deleted the list of names, as all those attending are on the spreadsheet. If you want to come here and come with me, you are welcome.

Kind Regards

Mal

That’s very kind. I have some National Trust vouchers and hope to visit somewhere on the way in the afternoon ( weather permitting) a brief respite from the rain today. :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

Hi Mal John & I were first to reply to come but no food hope you have allocated two seats for us.Patricia xx

Hi Patricia,

Yes, you are all good.

I deliberately did not put you and John on the spreadsheet, so as to avoid any confusion for the venue on the night but I know you are coming along. So, you are good to go :+1:

Kind Regards

Hi Margaret, Greg, Sharyn & Nigel,

First of all, a big welcome to New Members Sharyn & Nigel, we look forward to meeting you both on the 18th Feb :+1:

I have noted your requests to join us and put your meal choices on an updated spreadsheet and I am gping to drive over to the Red Lion and chat to them and finalise things for the 18th and hopefully they will be happy and you will all be good to go :crossed_fingers:

Best Regards

Mal

Hi again everyone,

I drove over to The Red Lion and spoke to the Manager (Lisa) and all is good for the 18th, so only 10 days away :+1:

I have given Lisa the updated spreadsheet (FINAL) with the additional meals on it and they are happy.

I also checked out the room for seating and powrr and we are good to go.

Payment will be individually/couples on the day and the staff will tick you off as paid on the “extort monies list” at the end of the evening

Finally, there is ample parking at the venue and if you head straight on when you drive in with the Premier Inn on your R/H side, turn right past the Premier Inn and there is an overflow car park :+1:

We look forward to seeing you all on the night:wink:

Best Regards

Rubbish weather but we will swim our way to the Red Lion. :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:. Kim and Mazzy

Agree with you, it is a tad soggy but we are hardy MX-5 'ers

Home. I dont know how my Mazzy got through such deep water, but we made it, roads very flooded near here. Thank you very much for a wonderful talk and arranging. Kim :slightly_smiling_face:

Big thank you to David for talk & pics, and, of course, to Mal + team for organisation. It was an eye opener for me. Like many, I believe I have taken an interest in the Mary Rose for a long time. For me, like so many, the story begins pretty much with the raising, or at least, the run up to that. David was telling the story of the hard work of a relatively small team of before that happened. I picked up on the Time Watch coverage that was going on, but surprisingly that has rather been lost (at least, to me) to the post lift public story. Pity. But thank you, David, for providing us with a window into the world of the Mary Rose before it got to be centre stage in the public media.
