I tried searching but can’t get a definitive answer, so here goes…
I’ve ordered some 16x7 ET38 Team Dynamics Pro Race 1.2 in gloss black for my Mk2.5. I’m torn with which size tyres to go for. It seems the closest in diameter would be 215/40 but I’ve I’m concerned the extra grip will kill the rear drive fun of an n/a car and I don’t want to lose the purity of the steering. Also if I lowered with that offset and 215s might I have rubbing problems?
Looking at 205s a 40 profile is closest in diameter to my current 195/50 15 set up but lots of folk seem to have these in a 45 profile (and I think Sports have these). I’m thinking the higher profile may be more comfortable in ride terms and provide more rim protection from kerbs.
Or should i go 195/45 so as to keep the grip at a fun level but lose some of the aesthetic appeal of a wider tyre.
Any real world feedback would be appreciated.
BTW I’m going for Toyo T1Rs.
