Yup those are the ones! Glad to hear you’ve had a good experience with them. Honestly part of the reason for getting some coilovers was to raise the car up a little, as the lowering springs of the previous owner mean I’m scraping the underneath on speedbumps :slight_smile:

Smile. Same here. Mine had lowering springs when I bought it, and to be honest I was never quite happy with the car’s “attitude”. It always sat a little too low at the back, and caught too easily on speed bumps or “lumpy” bits of road. That has improved massively since Paul fitted the coilovers.

Awesome. Do you know what height you set them at (wheel centre to arch)?

Paul set mine to 400 mm rear, 350 front.

BUT: I kinda think that might be the wrong metric - the wrong starting point. I know Paul showed me underneath the car, and from what I understand, it is more about making sure the arms are at the right angle. And that, in turn, determines that “wheel centre to arch” height you end up with.

As all good detective novels say: “Any errors in fact are mine”, and I’m sure @rodders will be along in due course to correct me if I’ve misinterpreted that :upside_down_face:

Interesting. Doesn’t that give you a very uneven arch gap when viewing from the side?

I don’t think it does … looks good to me, and well balanced. But you be the judge (bearing in mind I’m parked on a hill at Mam Nick here)

Yeah looks good. Doesn’t look like a 5cm difference.

I just remembered that I asked the MeisterR guy about the ride height, as I wanted to check I’d be able to go higher than my current setup, and his reply was this:

”The ZetaSport for the MX-5 NC will have a maximum height of 355mm measured from the wheel arch to the centre of the wheel”

Is that lower than stock?

I’ve no idea what stock is TBH

This discussion was enough to make me pop into the garage and take new measurements this morning. When he fitted the coilovers, @rodders did say they’d settle to a correct height over time (they were fitted last September).

Measured today (six months after fitting): front 330, rear 340mm

The photo I posted earlier, on Mam Nick, was taken on the drive home after having them fitted. Good to see the coilovers settling in properly over time!

This also highlights one of the challenges when you fit coilovers - you need to allow that “settling down” measurement when first fitted. I guess that’s where experience comes in, knowing what that amount is likely to be.

I’m currently at 325mm front and 310mm(!) rear. No wonder I’m scraping…..

I figured I’d need to account for some settling. Wasn’t sure how long that would take though. I’m guessing adjusting the height means getting the wheels off all round too so not something you’d want to have to do that often. So I’ll start off higher than I want and then wait. Sounds like setting the back slightly higher than the front is a good idea too.

Busy day today - took the bull by the horns and fitted the rear MeisterRs on my own. A lot of swearing at times with stuck nuts and trying to manhandle the stock ones out, but they’re in :grin:

Will probably wait until I’ve done the fronts before I go for a drive and will need to see how the ride height settles. Right now they’re about an inch higher than what I took off, but if that drops much I can see myself needing to raise them up some. Will see how it goes - at least I have control of it now!

Also going to be nice having 32 levels of damper to play with :grinning_face:

Installed the front coilovers today. Found it quite a bit easier than the fronts which was nice. Couple of stubborn nuts but air tools FTW :smiley:

Took it out for a quick drive and felt really good. I’m current only 22/32, where 32 is most soft, and it felt a lot less ‘crashy’ then the stock damper+lowering spring combo I had before. It’s sitting a bit higher than it did before too, but I’m still scraping on some speed bumps :frowning: I guess I’ll either have to raise it up a little more, and cope with even more arch gap, or just deal with it….

Still need to install the extenders for the rear damper adjustment, so I can adjust through the boot lining, and fit the extenders to the front too (though that requires drilling my OEM strut brace and I’m not sure how to fit the fronts yet). I could leave the fronts until I change my strut brace - got my eye on a nice red AutoExe one :smiley:

I imagine I also need to get an alignment done soon too, though it felt like it was driving fine.

After I returned from a 3500 miles trip, I found that I had to raise my HSD coilovers by about 15mm, especially the fronts; the MOT man didn’t want to risk scrapping the bumper, or worse, getting stuck on the brake rollers.
Shame, as it looked damn cool! :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

I drilled a hole of about 18mm on my OEM strut and can adjust the rebound with my fingers or an allen key. The adjuster on the MeisterR does look bigger though.

I would say that an alignment is a must once the suspension drops & settles; maybe in 2 or 3 weeks time.

I bought these which let me extend the adjustment up above the strut brace, so I’d just need small holes to get the posts through. Lining those holes up might be a bit tricky :slight_smile:

Been looking for a subtle way to fit a reversing camera, and found this Thingiverse - Mazda MX-5 Miata MK3 NC - Boot trim and reversing camera mount by ianhampton . Replaces the boot release blanking plate in the bootlid and has 2 designs - a flat one and one with a platform for a certain type of camera to mount to. Should mean no wires visible and be simple enough to fit. Might just print both and see how they look for real.

Need to find a decent enough camera that looks like it’ll got on the platform version. The official camera for my Pioneer head unit is a) £80 and b) has a hanging bracket and don’t think that’s the style I’d want to go for.
