stainless steel exhaust cleaning

Can anyone recommend what to use to clean my Larini steel exhaust pipes? I am afraid to use anything too abrasive but they are caked in black soot which won’t come off with normal washing.

Cheers,

EJ

Is that Stainless if so

Mr Muscle Oven Cleaner…

Spray it on and walk away for a while.

Light presure with a green cheapo sponge scratter.

Try it first in an area which is difficult to see and do not get it on your painted surfaces.

I use Autoglym Metal Polish on s/s exhaust. Great stuff and removes the carbon off the tip easily.

Cleaner is also tops for use on the door handles and other twinkly bits.

I’m a devotee of Solvol Autosol.  Have used it for years on my bikes where you’ve far more exhaust acreage and it’s more obvious, and never had any problems - just excellent results very easily achieved.

I’m with Clive86, I’ve used Solvol Autosol for donkeys years on all my classic cars[Y]

I used to use Solvol on my bikes with excellent results, nice smell too [:D]

Autosol every time for me if its stainless steel

Thanks I’ll try it. Can you get it at Halfords or the like?

I used DoktorPower abrasive cleaner and a nylon scourer which got a lot of the dirt off, but there are a few black spots that are a bit stubborn.

 Yep Halfords sell it.

As Sucram says, Halford’s stock it, along with most Auto shops.

BTW, you don’t need to use any kind of scourer with Autosol (best never using a scourer anyway).  Just squeeze a small amount onto a clean soft-ish dry cloth (it comes in a tube like the old toothpaste tubes) then work it into the stubborn stains using a circular motion - it goes a long way.  Where you’re only wanting to bring up a shine, and there’s no heavy staining, then you just need to rub it in gently.  Leave it on for a few minutes and then use a clean cloth to polish it off, turning the cloth regularly.  For very light dirt you don’t need to leave it on before polishing it off.

If it doesn’t get the stubbornest of staining off first time, then just repeat the process.  I’ll be surprised if it doesn’t clean up a treat first time though.

Another thmbs up for Autosol here!
