Am having the exact same issue, light scraping noise on my Eunos VR Limited Mk1 when turning the wheel. Imagine it can’t be doing much good to either the housing or the column.
I’ve never tinkered with a car before in my life so if it’s not a simple unscrew/screw tighter job I’ll get me to a garage.
Someone has removed the standard Momo wheel from your car, and fitted a wheel with a hub from an earlier car. To be honest, the simplest solution is to track down the correct hub and wheel. The same 3-spoke Momo wheel was fitted to many 1996-97 Roadsters and some UK MX5s.
The VR Limited was fitted with this type of wheel:
If you can handle a socket and spanner, swapping the wheel is simple. If you take it to a garage, all they will do is tell you you’ve got the wrong wheel fitted, which you have technically, rather than modifying the steering column housing. In the London area, maybe take the car to Dandycars; they will have seen this type of wheel before, and may have a spare.
