Mine unfortunately were destroyed trying to remove them as they were so rusted up when I bought the car.
Thats worrying!
If you lift the cover off the mounting plate you’ll see the 2 screws that hold the mirror to the door, remove them and take the whole unit off. Inside the bottom bit you will see the underside of the ball joint, spray some WD40 over that and try to work it into the joint by slowly wiggling the joint.
Hopefully this’ll give you enough slack to be able to adjust it when it’s back on the car.
If you do break it, don’t worry - Autolink sell a repair kit for 99 pence and as it comes with a nylock you can tighten the mirrors up to just the right amount.
I repaired one of mine this way, albeit with a bolt I had laying around but the idea is the same.

just use the autolink kit before they fall off and you loose them!
I have a 1994 MK1 - I didn’t realise they even moved - I went to tuck them in to stop passing traffic knocking into them when parked (live in London - no drive) and thought they were just meant to be solid…
Okay I’m a dope, I have the repair kit but how do you put it together and when you do put it together is it adjustable because myself and my wife drive the car so the mirrors need to be adjustable?
Thanks in advance
