On my partners laptop, when you click on a link in a set of google results, or any other search engine, you almost invariably end up in the wrong place. I’ve found that if you click the back button the website you wanted is one usually page back. We’ve tried installing Firfox, but that stuffs the lappy completely for some reason. She uses Yahoo for a lot of information. We have run Spyware Doctor, Regcure, AVG and Spybot. Spybot shows a trojan called VIRTUMONDE. Any ideas?
Hi Geoff, I’m not an expert but from the description on wiki it looks like Virtumonde could be the cause. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VirtuMonde
I did a quick google and found a few forum threads on removal problems. Here’s one from PC Advisor http://www.pcadvisor.co.uk/forums/index.cfm?action=showthread&threadid=289365&forumid=1
Best of luck.
Dave
Thanks Dave, in the end we did the sledgehammer thing and re installed windows
… and the laptop feels 100 times faster than ever I bet!
My partner reckons it’s quicker than when she first bought it. Probably because I didn’t load all the junk that comes when the OS is pre installed
