Long story short… im a bit of a looser when it comes to popularity… and being around people in general.
Just branching out for the first time

Trainee bike mechanic in tamworth !
Hey no… You are making a good impression on here… I’m much the same, sometimes awkward around people or feel inferior… I’m not working right now… time off with depression then the pandemic hit… But on a brighter note, got my MX-5ND a year ago and trying to find the good driving roads around my new address! That’s a lovely bike… I only had small bikes years ago, first being a Puch Grand Prix Special moped, followed by a Honda TL150 trial bike… Enough of me and welcome to you once again…
Rob (Oh and I’m 59…!
Well thank you… as am I an awkward soul… I do tend to keep myself to myself. (Bad history)
I shall envy you driving the 5 atm as mines parked up… gonna attempt some work tomorrow. And thank you. I do adore my bike…
I’ve done a ton of work to it… picture below for before & After…
Big bore
Engine refresh
Stretched 5 inches and lowered…
New paintjob
Carbon fibre panels
Many parts anodised and powder coated. (Forks, rearsets, calipers etc)
Little modifications like brake reservoir, HRC kit… etc etc…
Full Yoshimura RS-2 exhuast
LED indicators
Fly screen
New seat
Personalised number plate (AM64 SZE)
And there’s more just can’t remember !
Hi.
You don’t come across as awkward, and as I’ve found out this forum consists of a wide and knowledgeable lot, all of who will do their best to help if they can or take the p&ss if they can’t .
I’ve a long and sometimes dubious history with cars, starting with a Hillman Imp and currently ending with a 30AE via numerous mainly rear wheel drive cars.
Bikes. Hmmm. My weakness. Well, one of them.
Started with a Raleigh Runabout, and just sold my Aprilia Tuono 1100 hypernaked. Dozens in between.
Just bought a KTM 390 adventure as I’ve always wanted to try a bit of off roading and never have.
I’ve had bits arriving from all over the world for it in an attempt to make sure when I fall off it nothing too important gets damaged😧.
I really like ‘odd’ bikes, like yours. Good on you.
Keep smiling, and ink is good😇.
Colin
You mention the tuono… im actually specialising in aprilia vtwin and v4 product… they are going up in value every day !
My wish list consists of an mille r 03…
Yeah, that Rotax V twin is a lovely engine, my first Aprilia was an ‘04 RSVR Factory, my latest an ‘18 TV4 Factory, both bought new.
An Aprilia tech eh - you should know all about the valve train and gearbox issues with the V4 then .
Despite this I think it’s my favourite road going bike engine ever, so characterful, and I’m intending to buy a ‘21 model once prices stabilise at the £14/15k mark, and I’ve scratched my off road itch.
What’s up with your MX btw? You say it’s not on the road atm.
As a previous Gen 2 owner dont forget the generator issue with these bikes…
And with the v4 the cassette gearbox its actually good it’s the valves they have a problem with
And nothing is wrong with the MX… its just parked up as I wanna do some changes. Its 100% road worthy
Mid 70’s still riding bikes, currently have a Monster 1200S. Been riding since I was 13.
Went production racing in 1968 on a Bonneville, ride to the circuits and hopefully ride home.
My first car was a Sunbeam Imp Sport.
Great fun when it wasn’t overheating…
First bike was a Triumph 21 I bought for 15 quid and sold for 100.
Last bike was a Ducati 999 - fabulous bike.
Sold that for more than I paid too
Welcome. I’m in Norfolk. Sadly I don’t run anything quite so exhilarating as a motorbike - my daily is a diesel Volvo V40 - although I still love it! I’ve always liked bikes but never ridden one. I once got ridden through Hanoi on the back of one and absolutely loved it so can see the appeal - I’m a big fan of cafe racers - so cool.
Still on the biking theme… I was offered the loan of a Yamaha RD200 to take my bike test on back in 1980 - I wisely declined because I was totally nuts on 2 wheels and probably wouldn’t be here now had I got that Full bike licence…!
Rob
A big welcome from East Yorkshire. I currently have 2 nc’s 2.0 litre sport in true red and a 1.8 in sunlight silver. I also drive a Saab 93 2.8 turbo, a merc a180 company car and recently sold my 2001 Honda Fireblade RR1 due to health reasons. Interesting to see a pic of the Honda CT70 has I owned one back about 17years ago but was persuaded to sell it to a guy from the Midlands area when he saw it at a monkey bike show ? Dont suppose yours is a yellow greenish colour.
Welcome to the club Ambasize. There are many like minded people on here.
Unfortunately I have never owned a motorbike, but I admit to once having a tuned up Vespa 150 My mother forbid me from owning a motorbike as a close friend of hers was killed on one. She didn’t know though, that I was a member of the University Motorbike club!
A long time ago I did help my mate build up a “650cc Triton” comprised of a Norton “Featherbed” frame with Triumph Bonneville engine (twin plugs: race and road) and pre-unit gearbox. It was a beautiful thing with a metallic blue frame, polished alloy fuel tank, clip-on handle bars, rear-set pegs and twin Dunstall Mega(phone) exhausts. It was a real Cafe Racer in it’s day. Fearsome thing! I was at the time driving and racing Triumph Spitfires and MG Midgets.
Our current fleet is the ND, a Skoda Yeti, a Devon Provence Campervan and a fleet of Mountain Bikes and Road Bikes.
Hello and welcome from Essex Ambasize. I started out in the early 80s riding scooters, Vespas and Lambrettas , although I did also have an occasional go on a friends Yamaha RD350 LC which was like going at warp speed compared to a scooter. I decided after a few years they were all too bloody cold in the winter and passed my driving test.My first car was a Ford Escort MK1 Mexico ( two tone blue) which in them days you could pick up for a few hundred quid .
These days we have the ND30 AE and a 66 plate Mazda 3.
