The 80’s for me were not so favourable apart from having our 2 children born. The 60’s 70’s were much better, I was born 1954 so growing up into the 60/70’s were great. Apart from the music and fashion it’s getting in pubs/clubs/dance halls when you were under 18 was ace. I also got married in the 70’s and bought a house. All the 80’s brought for me and obviously others were higher interest rates (15%) and a few job shifts which I became to hate, much settled on that front come the 90’s. I drove crap cars too in the 80’s, what I could afford, Lada, (Skoda when they weren’t so good, I’ve got one now though 
) Renault’s a Nissan Cherry another.

Even then they were sold for too much. Ask yourself this question.
How much is a house worth if you can only sell it to one person? They had tenants on statutory tenancies for life and they could even pass on the tenancy to a child.
In the 1990’s some old council housing stock was being sold to housing associations at £200 a unit. I kid you not.

Once a council house had been purchased for a hugely discounted price, only three years had to elapse before it could be sold for a nice fat profit.
It was fine for some.
My dad & mum bought theirs where I grew up, mum passed and dad moved into a newish bungalow accommodation, like an enclosed small private retirement village. He hated it, eventually he bought and moved back into an ex council house.
