Looks good to me; love the alloys.
RX-8 had it’s nav drive between the rear seats so it’s not such an off the wall idea.
Actually, I don’t know why it has a nav drive, if the MZD Connect (tablet screen on dash) is the same as Mazda3 then that uses an SD card for the nav…
Here’s a youtube clip from the car in Japan:

I know a few people don’t like the new look but I personally love it… Now off to rob a bank lol.

Best real lighting, moving shots. Really show it as in real life.
I really like it and NEED a one mam. Oh bugger, kids’ universities to pay for first, that’ll be why I could only afford to spend £1200 on one! One year in and still having a ball tho.
…hope they’ve GALVANIZED THE CHASSIS!! If not, that would be a real kick in the teeth to prospective buyers, given the appalling vulnerability of previous models to unacceptable rusting in the underbelly areas.
Note the ugly moulding on the front bumper, on this Japanese spec car. On US market cars, this is occupied by a bumper reflector. I’m sure the after market will take care of it, but hopefully this is not a sign of penny pinching.
Colours; Totally agree, red, white, bright blue, yellow, bright green, being small & low any MX5 needs every
possible help to make it visible to all other road users.

Certainly looks to my poor eyesight that the car at the Barcelona release just has a simple blanking plug where the US indicator would be. Could certainly be a case of cost saving by Mazda
The reason why anyone would prefer the ND over the NC is plain to see at the launch; the NC3 all of a sudden looks horribly dated, and heavy looking, in a way that never affected the NA or NB1 (the NB2 facelift was less successful).
[/quote]
Surely the NC3 was always going to look more dated when compared to the ‘revolutionary’ ND? The NA, NB and NC are all obviously related when they were released so the differences were not so obvious.
It would seem that we are ALL driving horribly dated cars!
This is one seriously lovely car. I bought my Mk3 as a “keeper”, have spent a load of money having the undersides treated to preserve it. I like the look of this new one so much I would consider selling my other kidney for a new one. I love this colour too.
Mazda MUST sort out the rust issues and properly treat this car for the euro market
They had better spray them properly too, today buyers want much more than shoddy
Like pointed out earlier…that “reflector” indent would have to go for the UK market
If they did red stitching for the car in the shots, then I hope they match the stitching for the other colours they will produce
I don’t have a problem with the “D” word, and if they made a diesel/turbo one with a decent exhaust noise I think they would sell, but I don’t know how that would effect the 50/50 weight issue as diesels tend to be larger and heavier than petrol engines. The improved fuel economy would be a bonus and make it sell better, making it more of an “everyday” car. I doubt I could afford to run mine every day doing the mileage I do every week.
I don’t agree with the voices of concern with extra power/top speed, the more you chuck in horses the price goes up, then you are creeping into Merc/BMW/Porche markets, and lets face it the badge does make a difference to many. When you drive the current MX5’s on “A” and “B” roads you have stacks of fun, and are most of the time legal. On a track day this car is a hoot, OK slower in a straight line than many others, but not many can keep on your tail when cornering.
I will beg on crushed glass to “her that is the boss” for one of these new un’s.
Car in Barcelona was just the same. I doubt that car was EU spec anyhow. Maybe because this is a pre-production prototype, but the bumper fit isn’t the greatest.
Launch cars in US. EU and Japan look to be lowered as well. Another disguised car was spotted after the launch, on what seems to be smaller wheels and a taller ride height, possibly the base 1.5 130hp model
its amazing the effect that disguise has, it looks bloody awful in those shots…!
Is there any news on when its for sale in the UK and what the price will be?
Will the 4th generation be like the 3.5 and be available in both soft-top and roadster coupe versions? Or is it just going to be soft-top only?
Nothing heard, unless you know better
Since most new NC sales are the coupe, it would be quite bizarre if they didn’t intend one for the ND.
However I suspect they will want the lighter soft-top into the hands of journalists etc first to set some good performance figures.

I phoned the local main dealer the week after the launch to to ask these questions and a few more. They told me that they hadn’t been given any relevant information by Mazda, but were due to go to some sort of briefing in a few weeks time. I’m expecting to hear back when they’ve got more info.
I expect the price to be similar to the current model (before any recent discounts). The bigger question is which engine will it have?
Initially a 130hp 1.5 from mid-2015, then the 2.0 in 2016
2016 !! Jeez - I am not sure I have that much patience…
Correct me if I’m wrong but the US market only ever offered the larger 2 litre version didnt it?
Everyone knows that they just LOVE big engined cars over there so its really hard to believe that Mazda would offer just the 1.5 at lauch in the US even given the reduction in weight. In fact I’d be surprised if they did U-turn in their current marketing and offered the US market the smaller engined car at any time. A quick read through the responses to Motor trends article would suggest that the average US customer wouldnt be happy with just the smaller engine. Surely Mazda wouldnt make what would appear to be such a simple marketing blunder.
My guess will be that they will launch with just the one larger engined option in the US and the two in europe.
I certainly hope so as if they dont then Zpat isn’t the only one going to be losing patience!
