The "Old Forum"

I have just spent a very enjoyable hour browsing the “old forum”. There is some b…y good info on there albeit as read only.  I had forgotten about those crazy Emoticons. I wish we could have them on the New Forum, it would brighten up and lighten up some of the posts too.

still a good read pollyana, as you say, and possiubly still handy, but a shame, that so many of the forum thread names are now missing, even though they were only names, they became friends,

moving on, the new forum is becoming better and easier to use as time goes on, and a sprinkling of new names along with most of the old,is good,  regards to all…

You can copy them to your photobucket account as I have done and use them whenever and wherever you please

Getting the smileys over is harder than it should be for a couple of reasons;

The software uses the same smileys in post content as it does for the thread (you know how you can chose a smiley when you start a thread?), so that causes formatting issues

Also, (as with the old forum) the ‘insert smiley’ box does not re-size well with the bigger ones, such as the ‘useless without pics’ one, and it all ends up a bit of a mess.

We can sort it - from what I can tell without too much hassle - but unfortunately, bigger issues keep getting in the way…

That will be great when the time comes, thanks for your input.

I couldn’t have said it better my self.

You know me and computers, spell it out for me then.

I really wish that I could give you an idea of time scale for it to get sorted, but I’m sure you’ve noticed what these things can be like.

If it was my own site, hosted on my own server, I’m pretty sure I could get a fully working solution up and running in under 48 hours. But being a ‘proper’ site, there is all the associated testing, and tweaking to make sure it functions exactly as we want, in every browser (something which admitedly has not been the forum’s strong point, but it is something that I really want to focus on), and then there is the associated security testing - does it, in some bizarre way, allow direct access to the database or whatever?

Another issue that arises is that just now everything is nicely maintained from a pretty little control panel - functionality that I would want to keep as much as possible, which makes things a little bit trickier.

And then, after all that is done, which I would hope could be done in under a couple of weeks (keeping in mind we are not working on the forum full time! [:)]), it gets passed on to the developers, and it constantly ends up at the back of the cue, because of security updates and so on.

I think that another content editor update will be released soon, to rectify a pretty big problem that occurs with IE8 (and dare I say probably some other browsers), which might also tie in better smiley functionality (fingers crossed) - but I’m not hopeful.

What I would ideally want is a window with a series of tabs, that could categorise smileys based on their content; Standard, Animated, Messages, Seasonal, and so on and so forth, just to make it nice and easy to get what you want, quickly and easily.

Right click on the image you want to save and select the “copy image location” or whatever Internet Explorer says for the same action (I use Firefox browser)

In photobucket there is an option that says “Web URL”

Paste the link you have just copied into the box that says “paste web URL here”

Click Upload and Bob’s your Monkhouse.

To use the image, paste the IMG link into your post.
