Thinking of selling our MX-5 as we are not using it as much as we thought.
After a steer on what people think its worth and the best place to sell it.
Car is a Nov 23 2.0 Homura ND2 (Bilstiens / Under bonnet brace/ BBS forged alloys/Ivory leather Etc.) in white, soft top. We bought car as an ex demo at 2 months old (First registered Nov 2023) from a Mazda dealer showing 300 miles and the car is now showing 6600miles. Car is full Mazda history (one service) is under Mazda warranty until Nov 2026,it also has the full Mazda Speed/Aero kit on it and a couple of other minor bits and bobs. Car has a full frontal PPF wrap (so no stone chips) has had the under side waxoiled, has always been garaged in its time with us and is in near mint condition. Thoughts?
Would LOVE to see a Homura in white with the BBS, and maybe the roof up (black contrast etc). Not that Iām in the market, just Iāve never seen that spec in Artic. even more so with the bodykit.
Thoughts: imo donāt sell it, as these sorts of cars arenāt going to be along for long, and when the itch comes around again, youāll probably have to by used, which is tough when you got a car (which would be the same one), literally new.
But of course you know your use/wants/needs/finances/space etc
I only use mine 1-1.5K miles a year, and it takes my life over looking after it with all sorts of loon parameters. Still.
Iād think youād get a good price. Thereās currently a 2k miles, '23 plate black Homura (ND2 of course) for Ā£26.6K on Autotrader, which seems like a comedy show, especially as itās not at a Mazda dealership, either. Yours of course adds the bodykit + PPF. Iād imagine selling it via Motorway or similar, those extras will count for hardly anything, esp the PPF- any extras/options Iāve had on a car have usually counted for jack all, selling time, but of course private sales itāll come more into play.
Hard to put a price really, thereās been some pre reg Homouras recently on Autotrader flirting with Ā£31K, and those of course got the new ND3 stuff. So itās got to be balanced also against that.
For what itās worth I bought a brand new ND2 in 2019 and sold it after a couple of years, thinking I wasnāt using it enough to justify keeping it. The itch returned after a couple of years and I bought another one, although this was a low mileage 3 year old used example. These things happen sometimesā¦
Well I just bought a mint 2022 6500 mile GT Sport Tech in Soul red crystal with the diffusers, cream Nappa leather, ceramic coating, Bilsteins, BBS alloys etc for around £23k. This model was the top of the range in 2022 so is directly equivalent to your Homura.
If the main dealers are selling them at around £23k then I would guess they are buying them for £20k ish.
as for whether to sell it, life is always a question of priorities. Best I think to put the money into whatever gives you the most pleasure I think. For what itās worth I have hung on to my TVR Griffith for 29 years despite driving it very little in the past 20 years partly out of fear of losing it and never getting one again. Truth is I would have had more pleasure out of that money if I had sold it and bought a better hifi system I would have enjoyed every dayā¦
I was swayed by people saying āoh you canāt sell it, itās too special etcā but they arenāt the ones paying the bills and missing out on doing other things with the money! Truth is their passions arenāt your passions and if you arenāt using it very often presumably it doesnāt mean that much to youā¦
I was in a similar situation to you but with motorbikes. Iāve hung onto them for so long and not ridden them for at least 10 years I also would have been better off selling up and buying new speakers/amp OLED TV etc.
Tried it, liked it but time to move on. Itās a lot of cash to have tied up if you are not getting the pleasure or benefit from the car.
A picture from OP would be nice, cracking colour (my second choice after soul red crystal).
From my experience selling a VW Polo yes.
In actual fact it sold for more than they quoted us because of the condition and service history.
Itās a private dealer auction network and they bid against each other.
Clearly a few dealers wanted it and it actually sold a few days later by him.
He wasnāt greedy and knew it would sell and he made a profit he wanted.
If you want an idea of prices there are plenty of delivery mileage Homuraās on Autotrader at the moment, I suspect the dealers are getting rid of pre-reg cars to make room for 75 plates
These may well be cancelled orders after all the faff from the other month when they were waiting in holding joints for months for some mysterious update. I canāt say Iāve seen loads. There are a few x demos for stupid prices as well.
