Ticking from Engine

Hi

After 2 days of not being driven, I started my '5 and took her for a spin. As soon as the engine started, there was a loud ticking noise from under the bonnet. The ticking sound sped up when the engine was revved. I took the car for a gentle run out, and the noise was still there after about half a mile. I then took the car out for a longer drive and the noise completely dissappeared after a mile or so. I used to have a Mondeo that, after being left for a week or so did the same thing but for only a few seconds, this was due to the oil draining from the top of the engine. Any ideas would be greatly appreaciated.

Thanks…

Sorry Guys & Gals

The car is a 1991 1.6 Eunos Roadster.

Probably indicates an oil change due - consider a “flush” beforehand (Wynns HLA???).

There is a small bit about HLA clatter here

Thanks Guys. A job for the holiday break then…

If a flush doesn’t help and/or you fancy getting dirty and cleaning them properly I used the guide at http://www.miata.net/garage/hla/cleaning.html to refurb mine.

Took all day mind you, but you get to look at the pretty cams and it does the trick good and proper.
