Time to say goodbye

I’ve been a member of the Mx5 OC Northern Ireland area for nearly eight years now and with my membership renewal coming up soon now is the time to say goodbye to the club, MX5 isn’t getting used enough and with rising costs, other interests and very little interaction or club events in NI it’s time to indulge in other hobbies instead. Many thanks to MX5 OC for some great runs and events over the years and for the memories

All the best to the NI area for the future.

I get where you’re coming from, Andrew. The NI area has died a death and even with new Area Coordinators, there’s little to make me want to rejoin too. Paying the yearly fee for 6 magazines isn’t good value for money in my eyes. Yes, we can blame the lurgie, but the area has been on the decline for longer than that and the future doesn’t look much brighter at present. I’m sure I’ll still see you at some of the car shows that will hopefully resume this year.
All the best, Davy.

Posted for anyone not on facebook,

A message from our area coordinators.

Hi everyone we are trying to arrange a meet to make an agenda for road trips this year.
Everyone is welcome and would love your input.
We have booked the primer Inn in Lisburn for Wednesday the 16th of March 2022 at 7pm for 7.30 pm start.
Tea and coffee provided for free.

So the NI area is presumable dead now ?

Seems to be quite active on FaceBook which seems to becoming more of the way of things these days.

I’m not on Facebook but I am a new NI MX-5 owner. Is there much happening that would warrant me signing my soul away with a Facebook account?

That’s really for you to decide, this seems to be the group actually linked to the owners club, I’m not a member of the group so can’t comment on how active it is. Maybe someone who is a member can comment here.

One option could be to setup a ‘shell’ profile on Facebook, with as little personal details/data as possible. At least then you’ll be able to access.

I’d also prefer to just use the forum here, but that doesn’t seem to be the will of many of the area groups. Despite the forum here offering better functionality and searchability, in my opinion.

This is the current group activity on Facebook - not that active for the total number of members I’d say:

I’m not on FB either and tried to set up an MX5OC-only account twice in the past year. In both cases within a few days my account was suspended with a “your account doesn’t look authentic” message. Not entirely sure what about my account setup looked fishy to them, but I won’t be trying a third time.

Hi - we are hoping that members in Northern Ireland will see an improvement in engagement by the Area Coordinators via email newsletters so that you don’t have to sign up to Facebook to find out what is going on.

We are currently resetting accounts and, with a bit of training, hope Colin and Trevor will be up and running very soon.

I will get my formal membership arranged and hope for the best. I will likely make myself available to assist with organising as well. This is a great part of the world to be an MX-5 owner.
