I took the orginal movement apart following a You Tube video but after finding, what looks like a corroded crystal and the tiny size of the parts that I removed, I decided against a rebuild and so I’ve bought a new movement for £25, assuming I can successfully swap it over, I’ll consider it a bargain.
@Mister_H Do I recall you having a repair carried out on yours?
Great thread, love some of the weird and wonderful.
Currently wearing a 1970’s-1980s Seiko Silver Wave
From what I have read, It has a double wave on the rear indicating its water resistant to 100m and has a screw down crown, but it feels like it could do with an overhaul as that feels a little tricky to engage, and I wouldn’t wear it swimming to test the water resistance . The dial is brushed, in a silver/white colour depending on the light, and it has a single quartz crystal image on the dial (above the silver wave script) that appears to mean its not thermo compensated, but still more accurate than our COSC watches.
That little Vostok Kadett is supposedly ‘salvaged’ from Chernobyl. I bought it from a guy just over the border in Belarus so may be true.
The 24hr one came from the factory in Christopol and the Amphibia from Cornwall. I’ve customised them all with Fatboy pins, vintage bezels, Cosmonaut backs and vintage NATO straps.
The skeleton is from Thailand, Casio from USA and the Luftwaffe from Germany. Been going to sell them all except one but can never decide which one
