Good point Bol, every car is a compromise to engineers I guess, just some become more compromised than others. But did the NC turn out bigger or heavier than they might have wanted because of the RX8? My history of the NC program is next to zero so I wouldn’t know. (doesn’t stop my discussing it though and talking s#@*) lol
.
Yes, but the NC was based on the RX8 platform, and the Toyota will be based on the MX-5 apparently.
I think car manufacturers are struggling. I think the next MX 5 will probably be a hybrid as these vehicles are not big enough to go full EV.
I love my NC but we also own a Skoda Elroq which will eat my MX-5 for breakfast in a straight line. I come from the motor industry but even i can see the positives of EVs……yes they can be fun.
It’s not rubbish enough, either.
My son is 23 and wants an MR2 MK1.
Regarding Toyota’s reliability etc, I’m not sure how much of that is a hang on to older times- go on some ‘normal’ hybrid Yaris/Cross forums for example and grab the popcorn with the likes of battery issues a go-go.. Kind of like ‘It’s a VW’, as an acknowledgement of respect still does the rounds. Why I don’t know.
In relation to the 12V auxiliary batteries? Yep.. definitely some noise about that.. I believe most issues arise from simple lack of use of the car over extended periods of time. Thus causing the battery to discharge over a period of 2/3 weeks if not run and essentially recharged by usage, just like any conventional vehicle. It is, after-all, a small voltage battery in accessory mode. I’ve run a hybrid now in many variants for 10yrs, be It HEV, PHEV/BEV and have never had an issue with it… it’s extremely unlikely to be the hybrid battery.. they’re bulletproof with 10yr+ warranty. I guess like anything though.. different use, different habits, different expectations..
