Trim removal by Door on NC 2012

  1. My model of MX-5 is: __NC Kuro 2012
  2. I’m based near: __Midlands
  3. I’m looking for technical help or recommendations on: __ I am replacing my carpet with a low mileage unworn one. The only piece of trim I am struggling to remove is the upright plastic on the door edge that you might call the b pillar, near the seatbelt attachment. There is a trim clip just under it along the edge. It’s held down tight somehow and rather than breaking it I wondered if someone had any experience of removing. Thanks in advance.

Take the seat belt top cover off first then the B pillar trim pulls off from the top, if that makes sense.

It’s definitely stuck fast by this clip. I have torn the old carpet out in frustration but still need to remove it to put the new one in neatly.

Ah, is it the clip that you’re trying to remove from the body? I thought that you were trying to remove the B pillar trim. No experience of removing the clip, sorry.

My suggestion would be to carefully cut away the edges of the clip to expose where it fits into the body, then you can either figure out how it’s fixed or drill out the centre of the clip to collapse it in on itself.

That clip is fixed to the b pillar trim. It maybe a break it and replace it job so will try and find replacements before I do.

That is excellent. So annoying I’m pulling it up and just seemed like it was going to break. Appreciate everyone’s help. They are off now and new carpet going in :muscle:

@CompletelyDriven I have subscribed now. Realised I was watching one of your videos the other day on coolant change as may be doing that. Was it a pain to do the burping and would you recommend doing the thermostat as I’m changing the coolant anyway?

Hi, glad the video helped.

It seems a good time to change the thermostat as they aren’t very expensive. There are however two different types, the difference is the length of the plastic pipe on the thermostat. Maybe best to take yours off first and order the right one.

I didn’t have any issues burping it, it can just take a long time. Get the water level higher than the engine, eg with one of the filler tools that go in the expansion tank. Put heater on max heat and run for about 20mins, you will need to increase the revs.

Once the heater is hot and the water system has taken in some of your water from the filler tool, you are all done.
