Tyres Question

Sorry if this ground has already been covered but I want to get a couple of things straight:

On my mk1 I currently have Firestones all round in 185 60 R14, and I need to replace the rears. Badly. I’ve been trying to get some Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D2’s or Hydragrips but am having major difficulty finding anywhere with stock, having had a good ring around and hunted the internet.

I understand that I could fit some Toyo T1-R’s, in 195 55 R14, and run them at a higher pressure to compensate. Now comes the question:

would I be OK to put the Toyo’s just on the back? or would the differing profile and width have a major adverse effect and mean I would really need to fit them all round? has anyone else tried this?

Failing that, any other recommendations in 185 60 14?

Any help and fast responses much appreciated!

The rolling radius is fractionally different, not sure how it would affect things but the MX5 can be quite sensitive to certain things. I would go for Toyo’s all round or another brand 185/60/14 on rears like Vredestein’s, Toyo CF-1, Michelin Pilot Exalto.
