Im suffereing from lack the vocab to describe my issue!
I am in the process of replacing my delapidated vinyl hood and have removed the rear shelf carpet to check the state of the panels underneath and the drains.
In removing the carpet there are a bunch of plastic studs and two large screws with solid cylindrical heads that are set in plastic cups. My inexperience lead me to strip the phillips head on one screw but I can’t seem to find a replacement on MX5parts.co.uk - any idea what it is called or if it is available?
Also in finally extracting the carpet and sound proofing (along with the ~litre of water!) I noticed one of the ‘set panels’? has some bad surface corrosion. On removal I see this covers the fuel tank and outlet pipes - any ideas if I can order a replacement of this or am I best of trying to repair?
Not sure if yourpost means you had removed the carpet without taking the studs out; an old fork, with the middle prongs splayed apart, makes a good tool to remove them without damaging the studs.
There are 3 set bars; these don’t cover any pipes. Any corrosion on these can be easily painted over. I think you have removed one of the bulkhead panels, which can rust right through if the rain rail has been leaking. The part numbers you need are:
NA01-56-39YA bulkhead panel
NA01- R1-982A bolt, stopper, soft-top
I guess from your location, local Mazda agents aren’t much help. Bourne Road Mazda can supply new parts by mail order: www.mazdaparts-uk.com
Am I reading your profile right? Im a Leighton boy born and bread! What a small world!
Thanks for all the info, I managed to get the carpet and sounds proofing off no probs and have since removed the rusted bulkhead panel and renovated - starting to enjoy this ‘classic car ownership’ - will certainly follow up these links - many thanks,
