Think I need smaller thighs That’s a crazy price from Mazda!!
A very fair price. What with ‘Covid’, the troubles in Ukraine and the cost of living crisis, nearly £12k for a new pair of seats, including labour sounds almost a give away. Baffled as to why someone wouldn’t accept this price in a hearbeat.
I’d buy a s/h car with Recaros for 12k and persuade myself I got the rest of the car free.
i suffer from lower back pain because the lumbar support in most cars is too high and the bottom of my back isnt supported. i bought a memory foam lumbar cushion from halfords (search for halfords “D-shape lumbar cushion”. i removed the memory foam from the cover and used a very sharp knife to carve it to the right size and shape and then put it back into the cover and strapped it to the seat. it sounds heath-robinson but it cured my problem for about £10. if nothing else it might be worth trying just to establish how much padding you need and how up the backrest it needs to be - assuming you could remove the seat cover and insert it without affecting the heating and airbag. modifying the existing seats seems a better option than selling the car or paying £000s for Recaros which may still not solve your issue. As Beryl alluded to a bad back takes minutes/hours to acquire and months to get better. I hope you find a solution
Already looked at this option, swap seats, resell Priceless!!
Ive had my nd2 seats retrimmed and the trimmer said they’re the most stingy seats for padding he has ever seen. I didnt add padding cos they dont bother me, just had them trimmed in alcantara to stop me sliding about. Get em trimmed and add more padding, not too pricey. There’s even a guide ive seen online somewhere
I wonder if it’s not so much the seats as getting in and especially out of the car that does people’s back?
I except they aren’t too supportive of the lower back. But, despite a heavyish clutch and less than plush suspension I’ve never had any problems.
I’ve had back problems in the past and I can still get bit sore if I don’t do the strimming right or do too much weeding. But even with my recently fitted Meisters jiggling me about in car is no problem in 7000 miles now.
I drop in without too much regard but I’m careful how I get out. Tight car parking spaces or having to park close to a kerb and exit I’m wary of.
Great idea! I’ve got this in my TT and it’s like Velcro compared to leather. Good choice for anyone needing a refurbished seat.
WHAT!!!
I know. I think it’s as a poster above suggested, they probably don’t want to sell them in the first place. Kind of the free market in reverse lol
So found the reason for the pressure on my thigh, giving me a dead leg after about 90mins in the driving seat. Apparently there is an extra bit of metal bolstering under the bolster on the seat nearest the drivers door.
Following the guy in the post below, I have managed to “bend” the right leg bolster out slightly and finding it much better just sitting in the car. Will take it out for a long drive over the weekend to confirm.

"Yeah I love my recaro seats even though I’m not anywhere near skinny lol. When I first got it I was a little uncomfy on the lower bolster digging into my left thigh. So what I did was actually bent the left leg lower bolster out a little bit by hand without taking the seat apart. It was only slightly but it made a night and day difference as I fit “in” more. So, much better now.
Basically I just took a small towel and folded it in half put my palm on it and pressed on it and just put some weight behind it, no damage, no nothing and at one point used my knee to see if I pushed a little more that would help. Like I said I’m a kind of husky guy in the seat area lol, didn’t take much but just enough to move it outward just a little. I’d say it moved maybe half inch or so . Try it, it will work. That little bit makes a difference. I really think these seats were designed for very small people lol this was only on the outer lower bolster closest to the door panel, inner one gave me no problems so I didn’t have to touch that one."
