uprated spring for rear hoop on Mk2 frame

I understand Mazda do an uprated spring for thr rear hoop on a Mk2 hoodframe

Does anyone know the part number??

NCY0-R1-191 for right hand & NCY0-R1-192 for left hand.

Out of interest, in what way is it “uprated”? - I mean, why would I want to exchange my hard earned money for it (hypothetically speaking).

Thanks Robbie

Stronger, the springs weaken as they are stretched all the time the hood is up.

The stronger springs were used to bring the rear bow fully forward as the roof is lowered. They are part of a TSB to prevent the hood frame wearing through the fabric.

How much are the springs, Robbie?

Are they the same as these?

Don’t know how much they are. One ones in your link are not the ones refered to in this topic.

Well  [:(] they are the current part numbers, I went and ordered them…£13.80 each[maz]

not a brilliant picture but thats the offside one [;)]

Hi Bobm, another Golden Retriever fan I see.[:)]

Got them eventually. Obviously  not a common part. All I can say is it should be

To anyone who has the usual problenm of the rear hoop of the hood not coming forward fast enough and making the hood awkward to drop…These are the problem, change the springs and it fixes that. It also stops you trapping fabric and in ruining the hood

Can they be fitted to a mk1 frame, we have a glass rear windon in ours and getting the fabric trapped ruined our first roof!

anything is possible, would entail welding a stud on

Revised part numbers are MNCYOR1191 AND MNCYOR1192

having bought another set as I changed cars

The part number hasn’t changed, the “M” at the start of the part number you have posted is just a manufacturer code for the computer system (Kerridge) the dealer uses. The Mazda part numbers will start with N.

My hood also has problems being lowered in one go. Excuse my ignorance but where can these be ordered from?

Is it a DIY job to replace them?

 Mazda Dealer

and yes and easy, no tools job

Drop Jonnyfive a message on Nutz. He`s the parts guru at Guilford Mazda & has sorted me out a few bits recently.

May need them myself as it happens as my rear bow doesn`t move without assistance…not sure if i have a MK2 frame though Confused

Thanks, I have sent him a message Thumbs up

The beautiful weather yesterday was the reason I needed to fit the new springs to the soft top.

It was an easy job (10 mins) with a plier and fixed the little folding problem right away. Great stuff!!

Here are some picture of the old and new springs. Note that the new springs are noticably beefier and you could feel the extra strength when fitting them too.
