VVTI

How do I tell if my car engine is VVTI.

If it’s a post March 2001 1.8 MX5 MK2.5 it will only have the VVT engine.

Easy way to tell if in doubt is coil units mounted on top of the cam cover rather than at the back of the engine on other models.

The later 1.6 cars ie the Mk2.5 had the engine from Mk2 carried over, they were never equipped with VVT unlike those Mk2.5 1.8 cars.

In addition…

Easy " Noob" visual is …viewed from the front…the left camcover “frontal lobe” is bigger & longer than the right.

What’s your VIN? If it’s an NB and the 8th digit is a P and the 12th a 2 or higher it’s a VVT.

Thanks all for the info. It would seem it’s a vvti.

Sorry if this is a noob question but is this a VVTI I’m 99% sure it is isn’t it?

Yup.
Bit like my Cov-id prison midriff at this time…the bulge gives it all away.
Numerous give-aways include the twin-lead coil packs.
