Water On Door Window.

when i got in my mk2 mx5 today i noticed that there was a few drops of water on the passenger window there seemed to be some by the “join” in the foor seal and the 2nd lot was right by the front window channel,. i’m guessing it’s the partition in the seals causing the water in the middle of the window, however i’m at a loss as to the other water leak.

Any fixes for both will be willingly trie

Thanks, Wayne

Maybe im being a bit slow this morning but I cant fully understand where you mean.

Obviously all the seals need to be tight. How far over the door window seals does the roof come? Often an older roof will have shrunk back leaving water to gather on the seals etc. It will get through.

Also look at the seal that is attached to the windscreen surround. there is a channel there at the top visible when the hood is down. Often this one can be squashed which then floods the one over the window as it then has nowhere to go.

the watering can and a Friend test is often a good one to try to identify the source of leaks. You sit in the car and watch what happens as they poor the water on.

Good luck

it’s the seals on the top of the door windows… if that helps, the 1st leak is where the 2 parts of the folding roof join the 2nd leak is near where the window is in the “channel” or window runner, as for the seals they look ok, overlapping by a good 5mm i’s say, when the wondows/roof are down there is obviously the indentation of the rubber, where the rubber sits against the glass.

 This might fix it.

I’ve got plenty of foam left. ;)

sounds good to me, but i’ll have a to see if any of my friends have a pay pal, mine got hacked a few yrs back and i don’t trust it anymore personally.

any other ideas what it may be, seal adjustment or somat, ??

Halli, can you help? I took one of these seals off to see whether I need to purchase some foam from you and whilst the seal itself seems okay and pretty ‘plump’ I can not for the life of me get the damn thing to stay attached to the carrier!!! It just looks like it pushes into place but there must be a trick to it. What am I missing?

Thanks for the help

Ian

When you replace the seal, it pushes into the metal strip on one edge and then pops into the other side with a bit of gentle force.

If your seals seem OK then you might just ned to adjust the strips.

Gentle force is what I have been trying - but to no avail. I can see how it is supposed to go, but actaully getting it in is like trying to lick your elbow!

I know yours is a MK2 but on the MK1 they slide in from the end.

No its a Mk1! Why didnt I think of that? Will try it tomorrow when I get home from work. Cheers TCP/IP [:)]
