Water puddle on drivers footwell after heavy rain - Have tried usual suspects but..

Hi all,

The pic says it all I think…

The wet area is pretty wet and if you tap dance your finger in it - it will splash.

But there does not seem to be any water trail or other wetness leading up to this wet patch. Nothing coming from the behind or sides or from the front of the puddle - which has me confused. Everywhere else the carpet is bone dry.

I have widened the holes in the sills and that got rid of the sill sloshing a year ago. I paid Dandy cars to repair the rain gutter along the back of the hood as well. BUT after heavy rainfall this water appears as if teleported into the middle of my footwell (well, under where my heels rest when on the peddles anway).

Also I have poured a bucket of water over wher the top of the windows is as described here http://www.mx5oc.co.uk/forum/forums/t/272.aspx but only one drop squeezed its way in and dropped onto my seat - not the area that gets wet.

Just a note the FAQ for drain hole sills - here doesn’t work does it? - http://www.mx5oc.co.uk/forum/forums/t/270.aspx

So I am open to suggestions as to how this water is getting to where it is. Someone did suggest my windscreen may be leaking - but I did leave a plastic tub in that area one rainy day and nothing collected inside that container - yet water still appeared underneath it.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thank you

Matt

Can you check to see if the water is coming from the heater matrix. Run your engine with the heater switched on using the slider control then watch for any drips in the area where your feet are.

Couple of things

Have you lifted the carpet and had a look at the floor, maybe gone a bit porous?
The link works fine for me, and I’ve changed the text to a direct clickable link.
You don’t need to play with the heater controls, the water is always flowing through the matrix, but the point is worth checking.

I had exactly the same problem on my Mk2 & tried using a piece of wire to unblock the drain holes without sucess.

I was fitting some front mudguards & when I peeled back the front wheel arch splashguard on the drivers side loads of leaves and muck was stuck behind it.  Not sure how it got in there but after I had cleaned it all out there was no more water problem in the footwell?!
