Water Temp sender

rite then peeps… quickie of a Q

had the Maz now for 6 odd months, and its been effin SHIT on petrol! lol, but i love it still… so… changed the 02 sensor, no diff, its running rich too… so… its pointing to the NTC2 (water Temp)
where can i get one from? i tryed FMP, and they had 2 in for me, one for the MX5 and one for a “eunos” or wot he thought was… both wrong! :frowning:

so where can i get one, im pretty sure its that causing poo petrol !

Is this the kiddy you`re after? I got mine from Autolink.

EDIT…Easy to fit once you move the coil pack out of the way. Have you checked for fault codes? Should throw up a code 9 if faulty.

Hmmmm… now im confused.com

i thought the temp sender was on the top of the Thermostat housing??? shit… lol… wot one is that? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ?

The early 1.6 models have 3 sensors related to the cooling system

  1. On top of the thermostat is a thermoswitch, used to turn on the cooling fan when the coolant temp is high enough.
  2. A sensor with a single wire, on the rear of the engine, exhaust side, this is used for the temp gauge.
  3. a 2 wire sensor on the rear of the engine, inlet side, this is used by the ECU to control the fuelling variations due to coolant temp, i.e more fuel when the engine is cold.
Later models have only two sensor, with the ECU controlling the coolant fan (no switch on top of t’stat)

dude… LEGEND… thats the one im after… i think ill have to go back to FMP… as the one they had was RIGHT… bollux! haha!

thank you for that, i think this MAY solve my over fuel!

thank you fella!

Kris

Hi

I’m getting the same thing re MPG. Where exactly is this 2 wire sensor and how much should I pay for a new one? Easy fit?

Yup fault code 9 for me so i guess i need one of these?

Hi

I’m sorry if I sound a bit dense but, how do find out what the codes are, is there a machine?

Ah Luke, you have much to learn

May the FAQs go with you young Jedi…

Couldn’t get Geoff’s page to load, if you have the same problem have a look here:-

Good Luck

Tis fixed now, a quirk in Firefox[:^)--------------------------------

A rather late contribution here; the water thermister shares a common earth (on the 1.6 at least) with the throttle position sensor. The earthing point bizarrely is behind the dashboard, above the ECU. A fault in the earth will throw out a code 9. Replacing the sensor will still leave a code 9, and much head scratching. In the end, I simply earthed the water sensor, and the TPS to the engine block. Code went away, so did a stuttering issue I had. Diagnosis by Roadster Robbie, who had access to the original factory wiring diagrams. The only way to get to the original earth point was to strip the dashboard out.

 Hi all,

Just as not to start another topic,

I am having similar symptoms to this.

I have tried pulling up a code but nothing is showing.

Could a bad earth to the sensor cause misfiring when cold & poor fuel economy?

 Hi all,

I have tried again over the weekend to get a fault code to come up but the led just goes out?

I take it I have no faults logged?

Craig.

If it comes on initially then turns off and remains off then there are no codes stored. You could induce fault code by unplugging the air flow meter and checking codes are stored just to satisfy yourself that everything is working.

I may try that,as I have had the O2 sensor unplugged and that didnt bring up any codes.

I was wondering if the diagnostics box was working ok.
