I wonder if the 19 in 20 who do not wave are bereft and were never members of 2CVGB
A company in Wiltshire does EV conversions on 2CVs: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4lE7rcN4EnE
Was a Dyane Owner - all great Wavers!!
Iāve driven a conversion done by that Welsh company off the telly. Interesting.
I guess what Iād love to see is a contemporary e-2CV, like the contemporary Ami, with modern build quality/safety/mod-cons and, unlike the Ami, the ability to do and hold 70mph. I donāt even think it would need much range. Less a city car more a village to town car.
Sounds like an idiot,
I suppose with the ami being bolt on plastic panels (as far as I understand it) you could buy one, get a plastic body kit that looks like a 2CV and do it that way.
The 70mph, maybe tow it with your MX-5ā¦
When I owned Citroen 2CVs and Renault 4s, we always waived without fail. MX-5s? I guess about 25% of drivers do, and almost never women. Perhaps they simply donāt recognise an MX-5 when they see one? It does require concentration. I was poor at recognising an MX-5 when I bought her a year ago but am getting better. I still donāt recognise the newest models though as they (to me) appear like BMWs or Audis.
One wave back today from a nice black NA just south of Tunbridge Wells and then a flash and wave from an NC with the hood up - swoon - a little further south.
I feel seen.
Wave today from a fellow ND near Henlow - Great!!
Iāve always got the impression that the wave thing is very marque orientated - in other words, people only tend to wave at another 5 if it is the same model (NA, NB, NC etc) as theirs.
Obviously (!) if an owner is enthusiastic enough about his or her MX-5 to join the club, you would expect he or she to be knowledgeable enough to know about the different versions over the years, and what they look like, but Iām sure some people only recognise a 5 if it is the same as the one they are actually driving.
And of course, not every owner joins the club, so are probably unaware of the wave etiquette at all.
Anyone else get the same feeling ?
No not really. We had at least 6 waves yesterday from Mk1s, Mk3s and Mk4s.
The only none wave was from a Mk4 which is what we have. Mind you he was very old and probably had trouble seeing anything!! Itās not ageist because Iām old as well!
Back in the day (70s) when I had a Triumph TR6 it was almost obligatory to flash lights or wave at a fellow driver as they approached. Same in the MG Midget that followed the TR6. Now that Iāve just got back into sports cars with my RF, (after doing sensible things like getting married, raising a family and retiring) I must start waving again and see what the response is.
Just on my way back from a Hen Do today with my friend, and just coming out of Stanwick (Northants). got a lovely āwinkā from a superb minty green Mark 1 - really unusual colour. (modified? - anyway it looked good!).
Waved and flashed lights back. Nice feeling and my friend was surprised! I explained itās a Marque/Club thing!
For what itās worth, Iāll wave with no expectation that Iāll get a wave back! If I do get a wave back, great.
If not, no problem;
a) they havenāt seen it
b) saw it and ignored it
c) saw it and didnāt think it applied to them
For example I had one last week, an NC2 that was coming down a 20mph local road towards me. They were indicating to turn right into the road I was about to turn in to, so I slowed, gave a wave and left them space to turn. No acknowledgement, let alone a thanks for letting them go first.
I followed them down the road to a set of lights that leads onto a dual carriageway. They were turning the same way as me. I waited behind them for a few mins. No look at any mirror, continued no acknowledgement. The lights turned in our favour and we flowed onto the dual carriageway. I let them settle in to judge their travelling speed, so as not to appear that I was racing! Then as I passed by I looked over - no flicker of acknowledgement or even a glance. As they say, you canāt win them all!
Just a ānormalā driver, that happens to drive an MX-5. Thatās the category that one went into
I had a couple of acknowledgements yesterday up in the Peak District and one near Ashford in the Water a toot on the horn from a blue ND driver. From behind me at the junction, well I hope it was friendly and he wasnāt telling me to get out of his wayš
Another one, a Renault soft top driver pootling along through Matlock Bath at 30mph, commendable but further down the A6 past Cromford doing the same speed in the 50 mph,
a snake of traffic built up behind him.
I only got one wave out of eight last sunday. That was from a NB driver. The NDās drivers NO
Not a wave ignorer but an āafter youā type in a red ND. Obvs an NC takes precedence.
Some say if you fail to wave at another mx5 owner you will have bad luck for seven days and seagulls will take aim at you.
For that I even wave at fiatas⦠(abarth spider 124)
This morning. Glanced in rear view mirror after passing a junction and there behind us was an identical NC. I waved.
Pigeon then shat on the car and hit The Boss. Didnāt see if I got a wave back.
Leaving Whitby last Monday afternoon, three NDās in tandem all had a separate flash each from me. I think they all responded.
