Waxoyl Garage Lancashire Area

I think its now time to waxoyl my 1993 import.  I feel it may have suffered with our horrible grit.

Is there a recommended garage I can get it done.  Do they clean the underside before coating with waxoyl and how much should I expect to pay?  I though £200???[^o)]

These are based near Tatton Park.  They will do an MX5 for £350.  I believe there are some on here that have used them.  Hopefully they will see this thread.  I would like to know what it is like woking on, say a suspension arm, once the underseal is applied.

I know Paul Sheard Waxoyls’ their cars before sale.  Maybe worth giving them a ring for a price.

Wow, just went on the chassisclean website and took a peak at the MX5 pictures after treatment and the underside looks like it just came out of the factory!

I know when i look under my car it won’t be the prettiest site and i reckon £350 to have the underside looking like new is a good deal.

Cheers

Ben

Looks brilliant. Any firms like this in the East Midlands - particularly Leics/Northants?

Mike

Phoned Paul Sheard, booked my car in for wednesday, basic clean of underside, waxoyl for £40.

Dead Happy!

Hi RedTop,

Wow 40 quid doesn’t sound too bad, for a clean and waxoyl of the underside, let us know how you get on. I’m not that far from Congleton so i think i’ll be going there if they do a good job on yours!

Cheers

Ben

£40?! Crikey, is that all? I was expecting even a basic treatment to be more than that. If that’s all it is, I can’t think of a reason for not getting it done. How long would a simple treatment like that last for?

They told me its £40+vat and they do a basic clean and cover the chassis, subframe, floor etc, but not cavities.

I don’t know how long it would last for though, will ask when I go, but they said it has to be a dry day, so hopefully wednesday will be dry.

Not very good images but today went to Paul Sheard and it cost £46 incl vat.  The guy did a basic steam clean of areas that were dirty but unfortunately I did not know they would want to take off my wheels so cause I had not brought my wheel nut lock they had to cover inside of wheels with polythene.  Its totally black underneath now, stuck like glue.  I would recommend it as it only took an hour.  they also removed the blade I got stuck in the sill hole and I could see that my rear bilsteins were getting on and soon will buy replacements (the fronts were done last year).  No serious problems with underside.  Overall will last 18 months or so.  Very good service and nice people.  Lots of nice cars too!

Now to save up for a respray[;)]

Off you go everyone book yourself in and give them some more business![Y]

Thanks for the report, RT! That seems like £46 very well spent. I think I’ll be paying them a visit in a few weeks when things are a bit less hectic at work and I can find some time. Do you know whether they also have the capability to apply some sort of protection to the inside of the cavities (sills, etc.) and how much it costs?

Hi RedTop, sorry who is Paul Sheard and were is he 40 quid bargin to me

Hi Paul Sheard Autos is on Newcastle Road, congleton, CW12 4JX.  His number is 01260279797.  You don’t need to make an appointment time, just tell him the day you would like to go and he will book you in.  took me an hour from  Bury.

Does anybody know if this is an advisable thing to do to a brand new motor?  Do MX’s have any sort of protective coating applied at manufacture that may be damaged by post-treatments like this?  I know that most modern engine bays have a treatment to hold rust at bay and that attempting to clean the area removes this protection.  My new MX will be with me soon and I’m only a few miles from Congleton, and £45 quid looks like a bargain … unless it’s going to weaken any existing protection.

I thought all brand new cars were undersealed at the factory? so you wouldn’t need this?

Ben.

I was hoping and half expecting that to be the answer Ben, but I just wanted to make sure that Mazda weren’t an exception.  I was surprised that they didn’t make a point of it in the brochure and on the website spec pages for the car, but I suppose that it’s now standard procedure and no longer a big selling point as everybody just assumes it’ll be the case.  Thanks for the response.

Was just wondering has anyone else had their car waxoyled at Paul Sheard’s in Congleton? want to take mine there but jsut wondering if there are any satisfied customers?

Ben

I have not had my car waxoyled but have
used him for servicing, no complaints from me.

Redtop, it is probably a good idea to
keep the key in the car. You never know when you might need it.
