Weirdest/strangest/biggest thing you've managed to fit in your 5!!!!

I went to Aldi the other day for a loaf of bread and a hand truck[:)]

Just about managed to fit the hand truck in the cabin without having to peel the roof down but this got me thinking, i’m considering buying a big LCD telly but i’m thinking i may have to wait for a nice day so i can have the roof down to fit it in my car and this got me wondering. With the limited space in our 5’s what’s the strangest/bulkiest/downright ludicrous cargo you’ve ever attempted to cart about in your 5?

Ben

I know there’s better, but personally my “claim” is Mrs Goof holding a bike rack. Roof down on a cold winters day.

(Mrs Goof isn’t by any means large, but the bike rack box was!).

Weirdest thing I’ve had in mine was a 6 foot tall compressed air rocket launcher.

Slightly off topic, but I once saw a friend of mine buy a tree and drive home with it sticking 5 foot out above his Elise

So far it would be my 20” wheeled folding bike in the passenger’s seat though I have ordered a Brompton to (hopefully) fit in the boot of my MK1.  My MX5 is a second car, as I have a big 4x4 Toyota for lugging era around.

In the past I have transported some strange things in sportscars… I collected 5 large tyres for my old Land Rover (that I was rebuilding) in my little MG Midget   another time I took my Sister to Ikea shopping and she ended up buying a set of storage boxes that fitted on to a pole that was designed to fit between floor and ceiling… it looked like a lap-dancing pole and in fact there were a couple of girls in the store that where buying the poles for that purpose so that they could practise at home[:P]… anyhow I managed to get most of the boxes into the boot of my 2nd Gen Toyota MR2… the pole? Well the MR2 was a “T”-Bar version so I took off the passengers’ side glass roof panel  and My Sister held on to the 10’ pole with half of it sticking out the car… it was a wet, freezing cold night and I was doing motorway speeds.[:D]

Ding dong merrily on high

I get all my guitar gear for gigs in the car

Two guitars go in the boot, pedal board on the rear shelf, bag of cables etc. in the passenger footwell and the amp strapped into the passenger seat.

I transported a spare engine 200 miles where the passenger seat should have been.

I started a new job down in Bedfordshire last Monday which meant taking all my stuff down at the start of my weeklong commute:

Duvet, clothes (big bag that filled the boot on it’s own), washbag, laptop, energy and protein shakes etc etc.  I then stopped for a leg stretch halfway down the A1 and picked up a chap hitch hiking on trade plates, grateful though he was I’m sure he regretted accepting the lift!!!

before i got my mk 2    i met a man in a pub car park and collected an aircraft propeller, only two blades but went from pax front wheel well between seats and rested on the rear frame of his mk 1.

made me think then of getting an mx…

 do I get a prize, I knew that photo was coming…  [:D]

Maybe we’ve been around too long bro’

Did you have to drive slowly and carefully to make sure you didn’t get home with a bare tree?

No. they grow tough trees in Suffolk!!!

I was just going to say about the 3 sapling fruit trees I got my mum last mothers day, But I think Geoff wins there as mine had netting around them at the time.

BTW Geoff, Whats the second “G” stand for on the reg plate?[:)]

Garnett

After 200 miles did you rethink your breakdown strategy and join the RAC?

[:D]

Is that hyphenated by any chance?

“Sir Garnett-Walton of Queensland” ?

Another BTW, Is that an inspection pit I can see in the garage?

to help the original question, I just transported a 37" Plasma TV on the passanger seat. It was a manager special from Comet and was only bubble wrapped. Stand, remote and manuals in the boot.
