Wet Weather Tyres Choice

About 2 miles from my home, on the TT course, and I come to The Gooseneck, right hander. My Avons are distinctly unhappy on this corner, in the wet. Reading the Forum comments I’ve been trying to get Toyo replacements but none of the lacal stockists seem able to get them. One used to work for the local Mazda dealer and says he always used to fit Pirelli and didn’t get any negative feedback.

Any comments on Pirelli on the Mk2.5 1.6 please?

If the Avons were the ZV3 then I fully understand! - I thought they were atrocious on a 5!

The 2 old favourites are Goodyear & Toyo Proxies T1, but I’ve also used Kumho on a 5 and found them to be a very reasonable tyre for the money.
I’m currently using the Toyos, and on daily use in all weathers I’ve found them to be excellent, the only comment is that they improve when they warm up (but that’s not to say they’re bad in the cold).

Correct tyre pressures and a full alignment work wonders too.

Marangoni Zetas are dead good in the wet too - up there with the Toyos definitely - and very good in the dry too. Not to mention dirt cheap.

(I have T1Rs on one car and Marangonis on the other)
