What have you done to your MX-5 today? (Part 2)

I never would have considered that. Just shows the importance of reading the manual, even for something as mundane as a battery change! :+1:

Had an hour spare so installed the first of my 3D printed vents.

Opted to fix using T20 torque bolts and nylocs.

Needed to fettle the vent a little and need a slightly larger drill bit to countersink the heads a little more.

Looking good from a fellow venter :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

Thought about bonding but I just wanted a more “mechanical” look if you know what I mean .

Found some matt black vinyl and some matching spray paint and decided to give an NC steering wheel I had kicking around a bit of a face-lift.
I’ve ordered a self adhesive Mazda badge in gloss black to go in the centre of the wheel and I think once it’s fitted the wheel’s going to look much better.

Looks good. I have a retrim kit for an NC wheel spare, if you fancy going a step further.

I had one I got from ebay a while ago but it didn’t fit right so I ended up chucking it. If I remember rightly it didn’t have the “wings” on either side of it that get tucked under the trim pieces so it left an unsightly gap on either side of the wheel.
I’m tempted to give this one a going over with some black leather dye to deepen the black a bit and (hopefully) knock back the shine on it.

Love this.btw where did you buy the rear spoiler lip from?

Treated the ND to some new power of the electrical variety. Tayna batteries, next day delivery, great service :+1:

It looks like it’s possibly the Fyralip rear spoiler, I’ve got one fitted to my NC and it looks ace. You can get them in a lot of different colours and they’re an absolute doddle to fit.

Removed the instrument cluster as it’s got what i think are dried spots of cleaner spray on the glass which im finding a bit irritating. Light use of t cut seems to have done the trick on the speedo. Will do the rest tomorrow.

Just noticed the tacho looks like its still running!

On my 53000 mile 2016 ND I changed the Engine Oil and Filter after 1 year and 6500 miles of ownership, the oil was in decent condition. Then changed the diff and gearbox oils which was probably the first time in the car’s life. There was some magnetic sludge on the drain plugs so I will change the oils again in 12 months. I do like to monitor these indicators of wear. Measure, Monitor, Maintain - the three M’s for the successful running of equipment.

Hi Mark,

Picked it up from eBay, they come painted with 3M adhesive strip and very flexible. Pretty confident they do all colours, just a case of knowing the code:

Very easy to fit, it’s been on for well over a year now with no issues whatsoever.

Cheees, Pete

Had a wheel alignment done! When I bought the ND two years ago I immediately took a dislike to the feel of the steering. It was still on the original rubber so I had new tyres fitted and a ‘standard’ alignment done by a national chain. Improved things a bit but not the dead feeling straight ahead. As we live in a small town I procrastinated while assuming I would need to get to the big smoke for the job to be done properly. Recently someone recommended the local ‘husband and wife’ tyre shop just down the road from us so I gave them a try. When I explained what I wanted they just said give us the figures and we will do it. So today I printed out a mildly amended version of the Goodwin numbers and now have an ND that feels better than it ever has. Should have done it sooner!

Nice one. An alignment was something I did on recommendation of forums like this not long after I got the car and had new tyres fitted. Independent place recommended here in Bristol did it - FCM Motorsport. He could not get the front offside adjustment quite as good as he wanted but the results in feel were clear on driving, the car is much more direct and agile. Some before and after pics here.

It would be nice to know what those figures are though, if you would be kind enough to let us know. I used to get my alignment done by Paul Roddison but he would not divulge them for some reason, and of course he has retired now.

Much better! :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

Looking at the pictures closely I’d say (from L-R) Camber (the one that looks like a car windscreen with a wiper in it), Caster (Multi coloured triangle in the before pic) and Toe (big triangle). The figure under the steering wheel icon might be the steering wheel position but I’m not 100% sure.

Cheers. If I remember correctly Paul Roddison tries to maximise the castor angle as much as possible (up to 9 deg) which is what it looks like FCM Motorsport tried to do.

Was inspired by a reddit post and made this for both Mobbie and Bobbie #bananapower
