What have you done to your MX-5 today? (Part 2)

Thanks. They’re the 4 pot ones. They would have needed spacers with the stock wheels but plenty of room with the OZs.

Now looking closely I can see its the 4 pot as it’s written on the side  and now I changed my wheels there is plenty of room but I kept the look/stance by keeping the 20mm spacers

I did get quite a lot of crud out of the bottom of the front wings. I am glad they are aluminium so won’t rust but the inner steel panel could do with something better than primer.

A few jobs done on my NC1 - Oil/filter change, fitted IL Motorsport front lower brace (factory one was getting a bit crusty), Skidnation Delrin door bushes and new drivers side window seal. Early days yet but can definitely say that the window seal has completely cured the rattle when the door glass was fully raised. There also seems to be less noise when going over rough bit of tarmac which suggests the door bushes are doing something, though I doubt that the bushes and brace will make any great difference to the handling. Also purchased the improved dipstick which definitely makes reading the oil level easier - should have done this ages ago. Will be installing braided brake hoses once MX-5 Parts get them back in stock. Would also like to replace some of the suspension arms but not sure if I have the confidence to attack this.

Tuesday mine went to my nephews garage for new bushes in front lower wishbones, three bolts came out with some difficulty, the drivers rear bolt was seized solid. Eventually he cut it out and cleaned it all up and new polybushes fitted. All refitted with brand new bolts and washers etc.definitely a good buy those.
Got it back Wednesday afternoon, and today taken to my local garage for four wheel alignment, apparently all the rear is still within parameters and the front only needed a slight tweak and the tracking done, so a lesser fee to pay.
So all in all I am glad I didn’t have to do it.
Seems to drive a lot better in the short distance driven

Realising that I might have to buy a full Mazda ND cover (I’ve usde the Mazda half cover for the last 7 years), as the neighbours on one side (who I don’t like) are maybe having a small extension. What a s!!t show. Selfish. No one should contemplate an extension when a neighbour has an ND. Muppet builders for ages and all the mess. Dust city etc and no way I’m doing 2 months of cold starts, getting it off the drive to put it around the corner. Does nothing for a car doing that, and I don’t even get the soft top wet.
Anyway, in anticipation, heart pumping, I did an experiment after watching a youtube video, and took the top part of the ariel off (anticlockwise unscrew etc), as of course a full cover can’t have that on. Felt a million dollars when it easy easy to do lol

The neighbours two doors down from me recently had a complete new roof and loft conversion. Removing 90 year old tiles created a huge mess and everyone’s cars were absolutely smothered. Fortunately my ND was safely tucked up in the garage.

Yes, unfortunately I haven’t got a garage. I’ve even spent hours on the internet looking if any are available to rent nearby(ish), double sized. Prepared to pay footballer’s money too, but nothing. Some of the other neighbour’s garages on the estate in the vicinity are tiny and full of clutter. And too small to even put my car in there, so I didn’t even hint. Just got to think of mitigating it, and a full cover seems the only viable option.

How much room do you have on the drive?

I have friends who’ve used one of these ‘temporary garages’ when having their own garages and houses worked on/extended and something delicate ends up needing to be punted outside for a period of time.

e.g. Clarke CIG81015 Garage / Workshop - Green (4.5 x 3 x 2.4m) - Machine Mart Clarke CIG81015 Garage / Workshop - Green (4.5 x 3 x 2.4m) - Machine Mart

If you are anything like me, you will be out there every day brushing off the cover.
Wardy’s suggestion seems a better option.

The drive it pretty big to be honest.

Are they easy to assemble? What about the wind, the last thing I’d want is a catastrophic and slamming into the car?

Edit: I saw the assembly video and it looks 100X beyond my zero DIY ‘skills’

Each part is numbered so it’s a fairly logical assembly, two people required ideally. i would place it where the Mini is and you do need to anchor it, but you have a decent concrete base so easy peasy! :+1:

I have one of the Mazda full covers that I use on my NC when the crop harvesting is on the go here. It goes on and comes off pretty easily. The silver colour reflects the heat very well so keeps the interior cool and is easy to wipe/hose off - the silver is VERY bright in the sunshine - sunglasses required! Things to be aware of are that it does flap around a bit in even a moderate breeze so it could damage the paint if used over a long period (and if the car isn’t clean when it’s on). In higher winds it isn’t great at all as it tends to come off the fixing points (possibly extra straps would help) - it does get pretty windy where we are (to say the least). I use a half cover 99% of the time and have extra straps even on this.

I used Mazda tweaks today to do a number of tweaks to the infotainment system in my ND RF. including changing the background pic, enabling touch screen above 5mph, digital speedo, removal of disclaimer, loop and faster scrolling

Very straightforward, I had firmware 70 and it all worked well. Yet to test the accuracy and effectiveness of the Speedo app so will report back on that

Annual hood clean today, with Renovo. A bit of fade coming through around the internal bars, but to be expected I suppose coming up to 10yrs. Will have to try some hood reviver to see if I can bring it back a bit.

Followed by a general clean down:

Earlier today i installed some 12V LED lights in my rented council garage. They are powered by an old leisure battery which as you can see is plenty strong enough for low voltage LEDs.
