Has anyone had any dealing with Kevlar reinforced heater hoses by Autolink?
Not sure if they are any good.

I don’t like them, after a set burst on me after 12 months. I was assured they were part of a rogue batch, but I instead used Autolinkuk to source me genuine Mazda hoses. They were only a pound or so more.
I have the same reservations over bling silicone hoses. I frankly get suspicious of any supplier who claims they last 10 times longer than OE. Given my original Mazda hoses lasted 11 years.
Just received some “Kevlar” reinforced hoses. Looking at them, I cannot see any reinforcement at all. They just look like rubber all the way through. Any idea where the Kevlar reinforced bit should be? This does not even have the braiding like normal hoses,
Pete
I would assume the reiforcement takes the shape of some sort of belting or strands within the hose, guessing the hoses are sealed off at the ends to protect them.
There is no belting or strands. The hoses have been cut, and not even straight. They have not been sealed off. I’ve been in touch with the company. Got to ring them tomorrow. I’m thinking they will say that the Kevlar is mixed in with the rubber before moulding.
Will update when know more.

Mine have been fine for the last 3 months. They certainly whiff a bit when the engine’s hot for the first few weeks (not in a bad way).
But if they do not have any braiding or strands running through the rubber, then these are not reinforced. The main purpose of the reinforcement is surely to stop the small leak becomming a major leak. The reinforcement would help again’st the hose explodiing. I’m sure that the braiding of hoses was introduced many years ago for this purpose. With these, it looks like we have gone backwards.

Thats exactly what the AA patrolman said after he rescued me when these hoses burst (shortly after I performed some exuberant overtaking),
As I said, the original Mazda hoses aren’t expensive, and they’ll last a long time; leaking CAS ring is what kills them on a 1.8.
Sorry I am not quite up on all the abbreviations.
What does CAS stand for?
I have a Mk1 1.8 is there something I should be checking to prevent my hoses bursting???
CAS = crank angle sensor, sets the timing. On a Mk1 1.8 the CAS is at the rear of the engine, on the exhaust side. It can leak when the seal hardens. It will drip onto the heater hoses that go from the engine through the bulkhead to the heater matrix. Oil and hose material are not happy together[;)]
Thanks for that, mine is leaking and there is some oil on the hoses below…
I thought the oil was left over from the leaking rocker cover gasket I have already replaced…
Any idea what size “o” ring it needs as a replacement before I take it apart???
A big one.
MX5parts, Autolinkuk, SFTMX5parts, all sell this; it costs pennies. You might as well check your local Mazda dealer. They may have one in stock, or if not, it will only take a couple of days to get one in.
