I’ve had 125 out of my mk 3, 2.0L on the track at Thruxton, no mods at all, I felt that if it had a longer track it may have gone a bit faster, but that bend at the grandstand does fly up at you.
The faster you go the more inaccurate the speedo is, but it felt fine
I was well impressed as it had a service not long afterwards and they told me the pads had worn down 100%
From reviews I’ve read, claimed top speed for a 2.0L NC in standard spec is 131mph. If I ever take mine over to Germany, I might give that a try. I think it would easily break 110 ( ) don’t know how readily the next 21mph would come up though
At Castle Combe I’ve seen 113mph on GPS I think it was, wasn’t really paying much attention on the speedo into Avon Rise but think it was reading 125-130 ish so that’s really not accurate at higher speeds.
Be interesting when I get around to doing Thruxton, pretty sure that’ll be the fastest track in the UK, Castle Combe is up there though.
It was still accelerating just about going there so given a long enough straight I could believe 131 mph actual, it’ll just take a loooong time to get there
Terminal velocity depends on mass (990kg), frontal area (~20 sq m), drag coefficient ).36), density of the air, gravity. A 1990 MX5 will reach about 333mph
Will never be as fast as the Tesla Roadster! https://www.whereisroadster.com/
My 2 litre NC has touched 130mph (on track) and felt like it had a bit more to spare, although not sure how accurate the speedo was.
Which makes the max 120mph aka terminal velocity
I read there is nothing really left of the Lotus-Tesla now.

Or when Nissan threw a Sunny out of the back of an aircraft. No CGI then.
Pre BBR, 120 with roof down on autobahn. Not for long though as the Mrs was not happy.
Hmmm.
The 1.5 ND is doing 70 at 3000rpm in 6th, so at 7500rpm it will do 175mph, right?
The great thing about the MX-5 is that 70mph feels like 100, and a true 100 feels so fast that these days I don’t want to daren’t go much faster.
