What's this do, mister?

Through experience, engine misfired badly, on investigation a loose pivot bolt was found, cleaned and tightened and mis fire never came back.

I did not believe it so I loosened the bolt and guess what?

Drew honest mate it is NOT an eath point it is just an hinge,i think you will find that it was something else making the fault,you should put that one down to an odd ball,the only problem you should get from that being loose is a noise from the belt?and not charging correct at the worst.

I would pesonally check your wiring around it for a loose connection,it will not cause a misfire if the bolt was loose.{#emotions_dlg.wink}

I would tend to agree with you had I not seen it myself. The misfire occured after I put a new alternator belt on two years ago and after tightening the bolt well has never returned dispite three oil changes.

During an oil change nearly everything down there gets moved or nudged.

The (F) tells you it’s in the FRONT wiring harness.

Thank you Roadster Robbie.

Indeed, after looking through the wiring diagrams part of my Workshop Manual CD it was right there.  F=Front

I still have a slight odour of petrol in the cabin, though. I pulled the pipe off the canister solenoid when the engine was running (the pipe that goes onto the canister) and there WAS suction there.

Any more ideas?

Clive.
