Wheel Centre caps modification

  1. My model of MX-5 is: NC - 2011
  2. I’m based near:
  3. I’m looking for technical help or recommendations on: Modification Wheel Centre Caps

I would like to ask if anyone has tried to paint their ( original ) wheel centre caps or has an idea where to find mat black ones.

I have checked Alieexpress and ebay, but I have not found any without the Mazda emblem on them.

Thnx

A can of black paint will DIY it. The chrome wings badges detach, you can paint them too.

Thnx Mick,

I also found a topic on this forum where this is described. I have ( I think) the older ones, I cannot remove my badge from the cap.

I think I might not even have the original ones…

But I saw on MX-5 parts the ones you talk about. Maybe order these when the painting goes wrong.

Thnx for your help

Easy job if they are the detachable logo type which from the photo I’m pretty sure yours are.
Only downside is you have to take the wheels off then the cap pushes out easily from the back.
Put in hot water to soften the plastic a bit then ease the logo lugs out. A quick rub down and degrease of the centre then a few coats of the colour of your choice (I used black Plasticote) then refit the logos once it’s dry.

Yes immediately after buying four new OEM ones at eye watering price I sanded off the shiney surfaces and used 1 x undercoat and 2 times Matt black top coat, done in summer made sure each coat was properly dry before applying next coat still good six months later they are still good.

I’ve got a few sets and most of them came off easily but one set didn’t want to know. Do you want them without the emblem? If you do you will have to find a new set because the emblem clips through holes in the cap. There are a few black sets on eBay but not sure they are the right size.

I bought black ones from Ali Express a while ago, it wasn’t too difficult to pop the chrome mazda emblem off them and spray the emblem with Halfrauds matt black. The matt black looks really good against the gloss of the centre cap.

Easy Job, Warm water to remove the logo then a clean and paint. Reverse removal, maybe a spot of superglue to hold the logo in place.
