Wheels & Bombs Aligned - 11th September

This Mid Week Run offers an opportunity to see a specialist MX5 garage and to meet its owner, Michael Cleverley. Some members already know Michael and his set up in the village of Stradbroke. For some folk its too much of a trek to get there but his reputation spreads far and wide. We shall leave Norwich and call in to ‘Cleverley Repaired’ where they are prepared to give each car a wheel alignment check with a verbal report. No obligation just a friendly chat. Whilst waiting we can chew the fat over MX5 matters or there is a cafe which we will go to later but some may prefer a head start to this.

Whether we leave sooner or later we will the cafe stop is a must, so more chewing of the fat at The Good, the Bad and the Hungry.

Eventually we shall head off for the ‘Bombs Aligned’ part of the day. A short drive will take us to the 100th Bomb Group Memorial Museum from where in WW2 the USAAF flew some 8,630 missions in B17 Flying Fortresses. It’s not a large collection but quite evocative and with an ex-control tower to visit. Entry is free - donations welcome. Perhaps 45 minutes stop here and then on to our final destination.

Bombs Aligned part 2 is a short run away at the Norfolk & Suffolk Aviation Museum at Flixton. Not sure how we’ll be fixed for time as its a fairly packed itinerary and ope-ended sort of day but this is a cracking museum. We’ll need more time to do it justice but we can make the most of what time we have there. Free entry - donations welcome.

An easy run back towards Norwich, via Bungay, will take us to the A146/A47 junction with folk able to peel off to respective homes.

*** Latest - Michael Cleverley hopes to lay on coffee & hot dogs so maybe our cafe visit will be superfluous and as such makes a mess of some of the attached route directions, however I’m sure we’ll cope.

Hi David

An ambitious itinerary but I really fancy this one.  Will do my very best to be as punctual at B&Q on the 11th as I was at Sprowston Tescos for today’s run.

Many thanks

Richard W.

Many thanks.

Geoff and Louise

Hi David,

Could you add me to the list please. I’ll be on the first half of the run at the very least.

Thanks,
Laurie

Laurie

Got you down for this run.

David

Hi David

This will be my first midweek run, can you put me down please? I will have my father in law (Keith) with me.

Thanks

Chris

Chris,
Got you & Keith down for this and have closed off list for those wanting garage time at Cleverley Repaired.

David

Thanks again David.  A most enjoyable day out.  One of the very best I’ve had with the ‘Fives.  Who said retirement is wasted on the elderly?  Days like today are what retirement is meant for!

Richard W.

Hi David,

Thanks for arranging all the mid week runs have really enjoyed them.
Look forward to next year.

Best Wishes
Mick & Gella
