It’s a but ott IMHO but it’s not exactly bad is it. I’m not mad on the stripe but it isn’t terrible. The rear ended is a bit busy perhaps but it’s harsh to put it on Barry boys. Over all it’s fairly respectable. The air intake I’m undecided about. Your car is in no way one I would personally put into the category of chav and scrap however.
Changing the subject, I joined this forum just over two years ago and there was a thread about these forums dying because no one seemed to post anything anymore or the response was just do a search…I don’t know if it’s the latest layout, but think these forums are going from strength to strength and just loving the banter…Cheers guy
I think taste in cars and their styling (factory or mods) is a reflection of their times, be it (in my opinion) good or bad. Again I hold my peace if I don’t like it, but I’m happy to praise what I do like.
Negative comments can stir up angst and ill feelings, especially when someone has poured their heart and soul into something we oldies might find abhorrent. If they want to degrade their car, that is their problem, not mine. However, if it is a work of art enhancing it, and not just graffiti, then it deserves praise. I’ve even posted here some pictures I’ve taken of remarkably well done art I’ve liked on MX5s, but I would not do it to mine.
An analogy. I can remember my Dad hating the music I liked in the 1960s (Stones, Them, Yardbirds, etc) and I was not keen on his Duke Ellington, Benny Goodman and Artie Shaw. Since then my tastes have broadened, even more so after I could feel myself becoming my Dad when I heard some of the awful “music” my children liked as teenagers.
I’m not keen on Punk music for example, but when instead of being seemingly random noise it is really well done with quality, as by my daughter’s amateur group with the extremely rude name, then somehow it is quite listen-able and not just because it is her playing.
Without the dark side for contrast we are unable to appreciate the light.
After returning to the forum recently I was glad to see it was mostly very helpful and people were polite.
I hope this is not the start of a slide into Pistonheads style of cr@p and arguments that spoils so many good threads, or where one member thinks they are vastly superior to everyone else and only their opinion matters.
Mods are individual taste, and let’s face it when you can pick up running cars for £1000, you will always find some that make questionable additions, but if they like it, that’s all that matters.
I’m not sure any mods will significantly impact the MX5 image - those that know and have owned/driven them, understand how good they are, others who don’t see them as an easy target for old jokes. You always get them, whatever you own. I had a gen 2 Boxster S and was told I only bought it because I couldn’t afford a 911. I bought my mx5 and the hairdresser comments came thick and fast, but I’m the one enjoying my self while they remain in their boring cars (imho)
I like most of what you have done to your car saz and it could never be described as a “Barry Boys” car. The only thing I am not sure about is the “ROADSTER” badge just underneath the centre of the boot lid spoiler. You already have a “ROADSTER” badge on the rear of the car. I would have got two of them and put them just underneath the side repeaters on the front wings.
Neither do I, but I really wanted a 30AE and as there wasn’t a choice of colour I just “bit the bullet”. And of course I have to endure the colour clash when it’s standing beside my Soul Red ND.
Sometimes one has to compromise on minor points in order to get what one really wants, don’t you find
Interesting topic indeed. At the end of the day, what floats one persons boat may not be to someone else’s tastes. Here’s 3 of the many 5’s/Eunos I’ve owned and modified over the years. I suppose when inviting comments or opinions from others, you’re left wide open. From the safety of a certain amount of anonymity and a keyboard then it’s open season for some folk to express their own opinions on things, not just on car forums. Anyway, as my name is Barrie and that name has been mentioned several times already in the context of ‘barryboys’ here are those 3 cars.
I believe in sharing opinions, but there’s polite ways of saying "well done on huge amounts of work, although its not to my own tastes.
MX5 drivers age between teenagers and the elderly. They wouldn’t have the same style of cars same as they wouldn’t wear the same clothes.
As I indicated, it was a previous car of mine that I have not seen for 15 years. The brake lamp addition is a KG Works part. It was specificallydesigned to fit to the Eunos Roadster high mounted stop lamp, and was not intended for fitment to bodywork.
At the time I did not have £100 to spend on two badges.
