Where have you been in your MX-5 today?

I stopped at home and got a visit from a friend in his Carbon Lamborghini.
Not that I want one…

Anybody here who was on the Liverpool to Blackpool MX5 outing today, meeting in ASDA Aintree.

I was literally going in for a pint of milk (and some other bits) and saw a load of MX5’s in the car park waiting to set off.

Great sight.

Edit: I have blanked out the number plates that could be seen, but I confess don’t understand why thats necessary or why its done. Can anyone offer any insights

@ Captain Haddock …and @ Willier …
I once Owned a forerunner of that Grey Lamborghini (in the picture) Back in 1986/7/8 I felt like Charlie Banana’s Because back then, there was little to pull up allong side of me and outshine a Countach ….
Today There’s Super cars on every street corner, I had the best days to enjoy back then. I even had a Phone fitted ! Quite a novelty in 1986 (It never rung) I used to sit at traffic lights pretending to talk into it.
How fickle eh. They cost £2500 and was as big as a house brick … Motorola if my memory is correct…
But Hey I was younger then. And driving a car that most kids had on their Bedroom Walls was a good feeling… in the 1980’s
Today I drive a lovely MX5NC1 Am I sad ? No not a bit of it, Much better to enjoy with the hood down Easier to park And less mechanical concerns ,
I once got pulled up in the Lamborghini by the police for speeding, The window was very tiny So I sent the door opening upwards…
It hit him straight in the face ! He stared into the car and said
“” We are off to fu…ing good start Sterling”” ( referring to Sterling Moss )
That’s a true story … (Epping High st 1987) … in case anyone is wondering … I was nicked !!!

The blanking of Number plates is to prevent fraud ! Fraudsters have been known to use the number plate digits to get a replacement Log book… and then finance the poor sods car - as their own — the Proper owner isn’t aware of it until the Finance chaps knock on his door … It did happen, Hence the need to prevent the Number plate being exposed… as it is the first port of call for the fraudster. It starts his chain of sculduggery ! Etc.

I will continue to blank out number plates of other cars shown in pictures I post to respect their owners.

But surely it would be easier for a fraudster to watch a car driving down the road and get their registration number rather than waiting for a picture to be posted on a forum.

My registration is on full view in my pictures for everyone to see, I paid £250 for it :joy:. I guess to pay your money and you take your chance.

Regardless, if it’s not my MX5 registration showing in a picture I post I will blank it out :+1:

Of course Yes, ( driving down the road etc ) But the fraudster has a complete choice via adverts ! They can select the actual replica vehicle Colour Year model, etc just by sitting browsing through thousands of adverts. As I understand it. This is one of the reasons for Car Salesmen blanking off the car number plates in adverts !
Sometimes the fraudster has to find an identical car to match one that has been written off and needing to be cloned !
This is another way the fraudster works his trade As said it is better to sit comfortable in a living room with a magazine and identify the precise car being sought… Rather than driving around hoping to come across one ! My understanding this is why number plates are blanked of by dealers…Take care. Ray from Essex

Was feeling a bit flat this morning so took a lengthy drive around some Norfolk B-roads. Got back home smiling.

I’m not surprised that you arrived home smiling…. Norfolk is wonderful. Even better in a MX5
Sitting on the Harbour wall with fish and chip In Wells Next-the-Sea Takes some beating, …especially with the top down and a good Hotel
To go home to !

Absolutely right!

I’m sure you had a great time, but I don’t think driving around Norfolk is the best way to stop feeling flat

It’s not that flat in Norfolk !! The Dutch Mountaineering team ‘train there’ …
There’s a hill 9 feet high just outside Hunstanton, They wear oxygen masks ascending it

But, soon there’s good news about Petrol prices… ‘you might not need any’
I have suggested to the major Civil engineering companies that build our road systems…To Build them all sloping downwards, You will be able to go downhill everywhere, Downhill to Cornwall, downhill to Scotland etc, etc,
I haven’t yet had a reply It’s been quite a while,
I did however - get a reply from the flat earth society telling me that ‘it’s not possible’
Silly S.o.d.s eh !

No need to rebuild all the roads, just put smaller wheels on the front of your car-same effect!!!

OK, “STARLING!... STARLING MOTH ! It become a phrase that the Police used when Pulling up speeding motorists …

“ Evening Starling Moth did you see the sign back there with 30 MPH “ ?

“ No Osifer I was concentrating on not spilling my whisky “

“ We pulled you up sir Because you was driving erratically all over the road “

I said “So would you be, if you had drunk as much whisky as me”

The trip to the Police station was uneventful apart from the three Police dogs snarling at me in the back of the Police van …

You are all as mad as each other.

We’ve driven past Stirling (not Sterling) Castle a number of times over the years. Always thought it looked so impressive on top of the hill. A couple of weeks back while passing through the area we finally got the chance to visit. Personal opinion here, just admire it from a distance, not really worth the entry fee.

Instead of stopping at Stirling stop off a few miles down the road at Falkirk. Both the amazing Kelpie sculptures and the impressively engineered boat lift are very much worth a visit. Free parking at both and wander around both of them without spending a groat.

If you are very lucky you might even get to meet a friendly local MX-5 owner. :grinning:

Nice commute to work on some Norfolk B roads. 6c and Dire straits on (other bands are available!). What could be better? Still choosing the mx on dry days.

After the usual fraught MOT, a quick dash across country to grab a suit for my father’s funeral. Returned in a more appropriate Jaguar. XJ8.

His last trip was in a MX5, though I don’t think he knew much about it.

My condolences.
