Quite boring to report really, but it was a little bit of essential therapeutic driving. I needed it, the NC appreciated it, and it was a quick road test before MOT on the 20th.

Instead of taking a petri-bus to a local shopping centre for Jab No5, I drove fifteen minutes across open country to a very efficient and less crowded Pharmacy (Sharman’s in Northwood) with a nice nearby un-crowded tree-lined car-park where I could wait my subsequent fifteen minutes listening to the birds. All top down in the sun of course.

The only negative point was when crossing the local HS2 works and seeing how much concrete and spoil is being applied to our previously green fields. Grrr.

Some pics I captured from my dash cam on Monday (trip mentioned in my earlier post). Photo 1 - Coming down off Hartside towards Alston, 2 - Pennines between Nenthead and Allendale, 3 - Just north of the border at Carter bar going towards Jedburgh. Beautiful blue skies and again today when we had lunch a few miles from home sitting outside the Black Bull in Etal (Northumberland). Pic added that shows some of Etal village and the Black Bull with thatched roof.

The great open road, you have convinced me to plan a mini road trip after the half-term break…

Sounds good. Plenty of roads and places up here to explore off the beaten track. Hope for some decent late autumn weather for you.

Black Bull…not far from Winters Gibbet yeah ?

Bit further north (about 40 miles by road from Winters Gibbet). Etal is a few miles from Berwick. Quite a few Black Bull pubs round this area. There is another one at Lowick, only 5 miles or so from Etal - it’s good too though. Etal, with its castle ruins, has a a short narrow gauge railway that goes to Heatherslaw mill. The village is beside the river Till, the only major Tweed tributary that is solely in England. The attractive village of Ford is nearby too. Flodden field is also within 5 miles. Lots of interesting places round about if you like castles, etc. (Bamburgh, Norham, Alnwick, etc.).

Yeah my mistake, looking at picture of pub got myself confused  its actually Elsdon next to Winters Gibbet.

That’s right - Elsdon has the ‘Bird and Bush’ pub if I remember correctly. Nice area too - East to Rothbury (a regular biker gathering place at weekends with some nice examples) and west to Bellingham (Carrriage cafe which is worth a visit) and over to Kielder. Pic of the carriage cafe attached plus interesting art in the gents toilet at a hotel in Bellingham and nice bike in Rothbury.

Last BRSCC mx5 meet of the season at Snetterton. Lots of mx5 racing on this weekend :+1: plus 3 hours of Citroen c1 endurance racing too :man_facepalming:

Took the scenic route up to Croft to see my son do a Cayman + single seater driving experience. Couldn’t resist the £25 offer of a 2-lap passenger ride with an ex racing driver going full chat
Cheapest laxative on the market!

I’d like to think the car suffered its share of bad luck a couple of weeks ago when it got clouted by an elderly neighbour. Cheers

A very wet drive from Winchester to Brighton to watch the finish of the Veteran Car Run. Good atmosphere but no Mazdas!
