Where have you been in your MX-5 today?

A bit further north than Parchiepig and probably much cooler here in Denmark - Lovely day though, if a bit breezy. Island to Island today - Funen, Tasinge, Langeland, Lolland, Falster, Zealand and back to Funen. Lots of bridges, including Falster to Zealand and the very long Great Belt Bridge from Zealand to Funen - 18km in total with the main suspension span being almost 7km - Toll is about £25 one way. Didn’t get a full pic of the bridge unfortunately. Ferry from Langeland to Lolland (hourly sailings - no booking needed at this time of year - just roll up within 15 minutes of departure, pay and board - about £35 for the one way 45 minute crossing). A few pics from the journey, including towns of Maribo and Faaborg plus typical Danish country road here in Funen. Unfortunately it looks like a lot of rain forecast tomorrow for our last full day in Denmark before driving down to the Netherlands on Wednesday and the ferry back to Harwich Thursday afternoon. From our time in Denmark (at least where we have been at this time of year), the roads are pretty quiet and very well maintained. Parking has been free everywhere. The people are very easy going and helpful and not one bit of hassle on the roads. The B&Bs we used have all been spot on and around the £120 per night range, including as much breakfast as you could possible need. On the down side, it’s pretty expensive and fuel is about £1.70 I think, but for 5 or 6 days it’s not much of an issue. Oh, not seen one single MX5 though there is an MX5 Denmark owners club.

Arrived in Basel ok. 450 miles having driven from the shuttle across France to Switzerland so a longish day and a bit tired. Car ran like a dream but is plastered in flys poor thing. Cant even be bothered to go and eat anywhere tonight so will have a dram instead. :innocent: Italy tomorrow via the St Gotthards pass.

Roof down all day today. So glad i got the Emovis toll pass. Just drive past the queues and no faffing with cards or cash.

Some of those superb pics would make excellent 1000piece jigsaws!

Cracking photos and a beautiful looking place! Apparently once we get to Lake Garda its going to be 34° ish!! Wish we were in Denmark now!

Pretty wet here for our last full day in Denmark - send us some sunshine from Italy Parchiepig!. Still managed to see a few nice places and took another 45 minute ferry sailing - first on and off the ferry which was pretty quiet. Once again, just turned up and paid before boarding. Also an example of a Danish mill and one of their Lutheran churches of which there are many in the same style. Last B&B is in an old refurbished farmhouse and the room is beautiful. Tomorrow is down to Amersfoort in the Netherlands. Just short of 400 miles, probably with the nightmare Hamburg traffic again.

Ciao!! Well we made it. 1460 miles since we left home in Aberdeenshire. It’s bloody hot!! GJS i will certainly send some your way and you’re very welcome to it. Hotel is great. Right in the middle of town and a very short walk to the Lake. Drove the St Gotthards pass today which was stunning. Driving in Switzerland is so nice. Very calm and everyone drives well. And then you hit Italy and particularly the Milan bypass!!! Quite nerve jangling but we survived and little Molly performed admirably. Just enjoying the AC before sitting on our balcony with a dram or five.
Will sort some photos later as they’re being very slow to upload.

You are correct…apart from the north pole which we’re not that far from in the grand scheme of things.

And so to bed…

As I have been building a log cabin this week , I decided to take the day off as it is my birthday (yippeee!) and take Red 4 out for a spin. Stopped en route for a mid morning treat and to receive a compliment about the colour and the car from someone leaving the coffee shop…
Thankfully no room on the chocolate & pistachio cookie for 69 candles!!!

Rented a little speed boat today. Was very cool in more ways than one! Back to the hotel now for a bit of AC heaven!

Mrs Parchiepig doing her Kate Winslet impression!

I’ve observed this nuts driving but I learned recently from a friend with a plug in hybrid that you can configure it to brake mildly every time you take your foot off the accelerator, it charges the battery - in the style of old dynamos. Apparently this does make brake lights come on- so that may explain it.

Yes, a more aggressive regen setting will result in the brake lights being illuminated. It all depends on how much speed the vehicle will potentially loose, when the driver comes off the throttle. You might as well harvest that energy being lost, rather than converting it into heat and friction via brake discs and pads.

The brake lights coming on in these circumstances is obviously as a safety feature given with the appropriate settings applied, ‘one pedal’ driving becomes a possibility. Or put another way, you have the ability to come to a complete stop in a lot of EVs, without using the car’s traditional braking system at all.

Yep sounds sensible. Also explains why I keep seeing people braking at really odd times, going into and coming out of bends, going uphill etc. That or they’re just rubbish drivers

I’m sure there’ll be a mixture of both!

Also bare in mind the role of adaptative/radar cruise control systems have. I’ve certainly noticed a change in braking patterns on major motorways in the past couple of years particularly, and my working theory is that these more modern systems are at least partly to blame.

You will see Volvo drivers brake lights popping on for a few seconds as they ‘knock’ the freewheel on the auto box ‘off’ by dabbing brakes.
