Really nice walk on Mynydd Illtud. Great views of the central range of the Bannau Brycheiniog! With this
weather, you chose a great time to explore in your RF.
I drove down the A4067, A4068 to Brynaman and back up over to Llanymddyfri on the very challenging A4069 on Thursday and ate my tea up on Pen Rhiw Ddu.
The drive back from there along the A40 to Bwlch and then back to Pontypool was exhilarating though I should probably delete the dashcam footage to *uhm, protect the innocent ![]()
Finally parked up at 8.30pm and closed the roof after being open for eight hours.
We have been absolutely nowhere in our ND.
For the past seven days or so, (not exactly sure really) we have been in hospital because my wife has just been diagnosed with leukaemia. Talk about sledgehammer! You can picture the scene.
It’s not all bad news because we (I am allowed to stay with her) were in hospital the day after diagnosis, and the blood cell count is comparatively good.
We will be here for roughly six weeks so won’t be going anywhere in our ND anytime soon.
Sorry to be a party pooper.
Can’t wait to do some top down stuff.
Sorry to read about that mate. Totally devastating and shock news I can only imagine.
Fingers crossed from all of us on the forum that she rebounds all fine

This month’s classics show at the Pike & Eel in Needingworth run by a local restoration company. As always, a tremendous turnout in glorious sunshine down by the river, and a chance to waddle about with a coffee and a bacon bap for a couple of hours.
The pre-1990s section. Oldest on show was a 1928 Riley roadster; there was also a Morris Cowley Bullnose of similar vintage in unrestored but running condition, and everything in between up to a couple of showroom-standard Rolls. My absolute favourite is a Jaguar D-Type replica, one of the regular attendees.
(Edit: I’ve just realised that none of these are shown in the following photo of course! Beetle, Karman Ghia, custom Lotus (I think?), MG-C, can’t remember (Volvo?). In the background; Lotus Elan, Saab?, 2CV, MG-BGT)
Not shown; the American section - highlight an A C Cobra - or the ‘modern’ section, with a wide array of everything from Aston-Martins to a slightly beaten-up MX-5 NC (i.e. mine!). There was also a matching pair of Supras, plus another Supra that is a regular attendee and has had a terrifying amount of time and money lavished on it.
Others enjoying the sunshine were a lovely orange Eunos (regular visitor), an immaculately-kept black NB, a blue ND, and hiding at the back trying not to be noticed was a copper red (?) NC PRHT.
Nice run out yesterday in lovely weather down to north Pennines area - Allenheads, St John’s Chapel, Middleton in Teesdale, picnic at nice location near Brough then over Hartside, Nenthead, down to Hexham and back home. Some high roads on this route - Langdon Beck at 2067 ft, Hartside at 1903 ft, Black Hill at 1998 ft and Cowberry hill at 1820 ft. (Where the photo of my NC was taken). Quite a few MX-5s of all models out enjoying the roads.
Visited in-laws, father in-law gave me a very old Master Mechanics trolley jack! It’s seen better days.
Drove through Southport and then onto parts not visited before, managed to end up in Lytham. On the way back, got completely bamboozled by the road layout in Preston and mistook a junction to end up heading towards on-coming traffic as it was a 1 way, not even sign-posted (channel way). Thankfully traffic was light.
Stopped off in Churchtown for food.
Home to Creiff via the Cairngorms and Glen Shee. Enjoyed the drive so much I forgot to stop and take photos! Here until Saturday then off to Leith for a night before home. Tough time the last few weeks with losing my mother in law so a few days off will be appreciated and enjoyed.
Chin up mate!
