Where have you been in your MX-5 today?

Some years ago my wife was driving our GT6 mk2 from Dunfermline to Crieff when a Range Rover got behind her, and there was much flashing of lights, and tooting, which continued. When she eventually decided it was safe to stop, at Gleneagles, she discovered the driver had owned the Triumph for almost 25 years, and had personally rebuilt the engine, amongst other things. What he really wanted was to sit in it, and hear the engine.

‘Should I stay or should I go’ there wasn’t a clash, we’ll go I said.

Forecast rain, nice top down drive to Bakewell market, lunch at Chatsworth garden centre, a few goodies from the farm shop, top down home. We beat the rain, almost, 2 miles from home the heavens opened up, not bad :+1:

To the garage. Annual service and MOT day.

A clean bill of health on the MOT, and a full set of fresh oils (engine oil, gearbox oil, diff oil) by a lovely team of caring, time-served mechanics.

Maybe we might see you next week? On the Scenic Car Tours drive, landing in Bilbao on Tuesday morning.

Would have been great!

We’re off to Porto tomorrow, then to the Algarve (Lagos & Tavira) via Sintra…so will miss your dates.

Thanks for the thought though.

The obligatory stop at Reims on the first leg of our French road trip.

So this wasn’t technically today, but a few days ago I had to make a boring administrative dash to the Liverpool passport office. Naturally, I decided to save myself from total bureaucratic despair by taking the MX-5.

The itinerary:

07:30 AM: Arrived in Liverpool after a glorious, crisp, early morning drive.

07:45 AM:Miracle of miracle did the parking spaces in Liverpool get bigger, or is the 5 just shrinking? Either way, zero door-ding anxiety.

08:00 AM: Secured a top-tier bacon sandwich and a coffee. Fuel for the soul.

The weather couldn’t quite make up its mind, so it was a classic “roof up, roof down, roof up, roof down” kind of day. But honestly, getting to snap a picture of the car looking sharp in an urban setting made the whole chore feel like a mini-adventure.

Any day you can turn a trip to a government building into a fun drive is a win in my book!
