Who's owned a Ford Capri?

I had a 3 litre pianted in the works blue and white colours, wide arches 8" rears "7 front used to road rally it. bit of a handful but boy could it go.

put it into a ford in flood one night sailed about 30 feet before it sank, could open the doors to to water pressure,  had to climb out the window down the boot and jump like hell to the river bankside. had to get the local farmer who was kind enough to pull us out the water was an inch below the carb seats soaked one problem my wife needed the car for work next day she was not to happy.

Ooh! Ooh! I know sir! pick me sir! Pick me !!!

(Despite mine both ending up with sliding one pot Granada callipers on adaptor plates out front with RS turbo disc’s and some light hub “Trimming” on a lathe. Rolling eyes)

LOL!

Wrong!

50 lines boy for Monday.

The answer is BL Princess (wedge) 2.2 ltr twin pots. But then…only an expert Winkwould know that!

That’s what I was going to say, As I said “Despite mine both ending up with…”. I didn’t say that was my answer !

OK, In that case I’ll have a shot at…

Are we talking about axle tramp? If so, I seem to remember the best way to avoid it was to get the spring’s bush eyes de-cambered to raise the axle without resorting to lowering blocks.

Do I get any marks for that?

Damn close…so I’ll give you that cos it’s Friday!

The rear springs had a habit of pressing sideways against the locating bushes (over an estimated inch +{#emotions_dlg.indif}) on severe cornering? That’s what the Scorpion location kit partly solved(axle tramp included.) Checked my car recently with the DVLA…it’s still on the roadCry

Helped me around Knockhill Club track days in the 80’s. Aye… full of wee surprises huh?Cool

Well, I say you didn’t phrase the question very well then !!! Stick Tongue Out

I still have a Scorpion “X” kit on my 2.8’s axle… OK, I don’t have the 2.8 any more, But (Among other things) I kept it’s LSD equipped axle (Coming soon to an Ebay auction near you !!!Stick Tongue Out)

And just for any Capri lovers out there, The last picture I have of dear old “YAP”…

(Notice my brother on the right trying to “Levitate” the shell with the power of his mind !!! Stick Tongue Out)

That’s a sad photo. Mind you, I’ve still got Leda struts in the loft!

PS…can you recall what the SA V8 Capri was called?

Yer mental…but bliddy funny!

Yeah, It was called the Perana Capri. They were designed and then made by Basil Green Motors in Johannesburg.

They were originally built as an aftermarket conversion, but Ford was so impressed with the build quality and how well they performed that they decided to sell them through the Ford dealerships with a full warranty. It used a 5.0 V8 from a Mustang and did a 0 to 60mph in a little over 3 seconds (Remember, This was in the early 70’s and that was quick even for supercars of the day !!!).

I think they only did the conversion to the MK1’s and only ever sold a few hundred of them as the costs of the full conversion made the retail price so high as to be competing with much more prestigious sports car brands.

Is that enough info for you? Stick Tongue Out

Cheers Scotty!

Filling spare time whilst recovering from illness so reading old posts.

I once p/xed a lovely white Sunbeam Alpine 2 seater sports car for a red Ford Consul Capri GT the sporty parent of the Ford Consul Classic saloon.

Had the Capri re-sprayed white, BIG mistake as it was badly done leaving me with pink door jams and sills!

The twin weber carbs were never in tune and it was no faster than my Dads 1500cc Ford Consul Classic, itself rare in 2 door grey with white roof.  They made  nice co-ordinating pair on the drive though.

Lovely unusual car though, and so cool tooling around my home town of Bournemouth in.  In the end had to almost give it away to a dealer for much need cash.

Dont like to admit to these things but I once had a hand-me-down Capri Mk2 1.6 XL, red with black vinyl roof, awful in every respect, except one. It had no power, terrible handling, rubbish brakes, but boy did it look good after my first car, a Hillman Avenger 1600 Super Estate…Huh?

 Guilty!!

I had a mk3 2.0GL and a mk3 1.6S both in gold!!   Tacky!!!  (but what a buzz going sidewaysStick Tongue Out)

That brings back memories of when the tank straps snapped on my S reg 1600 Capri. Fortunately I wasn’t going at any great speed, so managed to stop fairly sharpish. It must have been a fairly common occurance, as the metal straps were quite flimsy, and quite spectacular if you were hurtling along a motorway…Shock
