Everything seems to be going wrong with my car this winter[:|].
The right hand wing mirror is securely screwed to the door but the angle where you adjust your mirror is very very loose and the mirror drops down after being in wind on the motorway. How can I make it stiff again like the other one?
A couple of temporary fixes i have used in the past are clear sealant but will need to be redone everytime it`s knocked in a carpark or tie a strong rubber band around the ball joint below the mirror.
One of my mirrors was very loose, then I adjusted it and it fell right off - the bolt holding the ball joint together had rusted right through. Very easy to change though (just be careful removing the black trim edge from the mirror casing - I used a Stanley knife to very gently break the glue seal around it) and all you need is a new bolt to put through the balljoint - I used one I had laying around plus a nylock nut to hold it solidly. You’ll probably also need some superglue to refit the trim.
Now fixed - I took it to pieces and the nut was fine it just needed tightening. What a sod though for fiddling about. washers everywhere and a spring and you need three hands to put it together.
Reckon it will last a couple of months before needing tightening again!
Wish people would mind my mirrors! I am thinking of putting posters in my car saying be careful around this car.
That will only make people more likely to knock them. I say people, I mean selfish inconsiderate idiots, they look the same but are more likely to lean on a car someone cares about.
Yeh I knew that, just rambling really. I always park where no-one else parks, lots of space either side, less chance of someone damaging my car that way.[;)]
