Worn bushes on a '91?

Was getting the alignment done on a ‘Snap-On’ brand 4 wheel lazer system, and was told they couldnt get any further travel on the rear camber adjustment.  I wanted -1.7 according to one of the threads here but only got -0.6 and I could see the cam was right over so the thickest part was inboard (pushing the bush spindle/A frame outboard to get the ‘lean in’ camber.  He said it was probably down to worn bushes.  I tend to believe him as I can imagine a worn bush taking up the play and I couldnt see any suspension damage but im dissapointed I couldnt get the desired spec dialled in, had to back off all the other settings (to maintain balance across and differential camber fore and aft)  Has anyone else heard this story and found a marked improvement in adjustment range by fitting new bushes?  She handles ok, but im wondering what im missing…!
Also, the guy said I didnt have to ballast the seats as the system compensated for that already, but on pulling down on the car from below, the settings changed dramatically and I didnt see any ‘compensation’ taking place on the monitor!!  That indicates to me the car should be ballasted?

Thanks
Mark

Yeah your concerns are well founded . The weight of one person in the car can easily change some settings by 1mm, which is quite a lot really.

If they won’t let you sit in the car whilst it’s being aligned then go somewhere else for the job.

Perhaps someone a bit more familiar with MX5’s would be a better bet and will pinpoint your problems a lot quicker

Good luck
