Z Sport owners?

Well  I’ll leave the one I was interested in alone as no reply yet. I think that dealer has more than one website in different names. Even showing the same car on both sites at the same location, something says, keep clear.

Back to you Z sport owners nice model.

Mick

Don’t know if you’ve seen this one Mick…or how close it is to you?

Yes I think I’ve seen that one thanks, although that link seems not to open now, maybe sold.

I think I may have to up my budget a little if I want one of those, or just bide my time and wait for others to appear in my price range.

Just to say the other dealer Z sport I asked about turned out he can’t find the service history, although he says it’s a very well looked after car…Hmm!

Mick

Avoid avoid!! I wouldn’t touch it with the proverbial barge pole if the dealer starts down this road, especially with over 70k on the clock. I think the price of the ZSport on the link I sent you may well be over your budget anyway. They seem to have priced it high based on it’s very low mileage. Good luck with you hunting and let us know when you get something else anyway.

Barry

Hi Barry found your thread eventually… My ZSport has 30K on the clock, and all records indicate this is genuine. The only concern I have is that 1st to 2nd shift is a bit ‘graunchy’ when cold. I think this is a common issue, and hope that the redline oil I’m going to put in the gearbox will help with this. I will post a pic when I get one in decent weather.

Hi again Lozza

The gearbox issue is … As they say… ‘Characteristic’.  ie all Mk 3’s are the same, at least until they warm up.

be good to see your pics!

Is that Finchingfield I see in the original post? My favourite driving roads (the one from Finchingfield - Sible Hedingham is better than Finchingfield - Dunmow!)

Yes indeed, well spotted.  It’s Finchingfield.  Beautiful village.

Hi Barry,

Here are a couple of pics taken recently. not too great as car not fully polished, but just to prove i’m in the Z-Sport club!

BTW, the Red Line gearbox oil has been a revelation. The shift is much better, and I’m getting some Red Line for the diff as well. well worth doing IMHO.

Roll on better weather, can’t wait to get some miles on her.

Just spotted the BBS wheels on MX-5 parts - over £800 each Shock Hope I never need to buy one…

Hi there!

I quite agree about the BBS alloys…ridiculously expensive!  I was mad at myself a couple of years ago when I slightly curbed the rear near side one. Fortunately I managed to do my own repair using alloy wheel filler etc and it’s barely noticeable now.

I do like the look of your ZSport, especially the boot rack.  Nice one!

Thanks Barry,

I’m in the honeymoon period with the MX-5 at the moment, and looking for any potential tinkering possibilities etc. I’ve already fitted a polished alloy fuel cap, which I picked up very reasonably new (I thought) online from Stoneacre’s online parts outlet. Collected from nearby dealer as well, so no postage to pay. I’ve cleaned out the hood drains as advised here with my newly aquired trombone cleaner, and am in the process of changing all oils and filters. I’ve also ordered some Eibach 30mm lowering springs fro MX-5 parts, to give a slightly lowered profile, as it just looks a little too high to my eyes.

The car had a really annoying rattle from the centre console/dash area when I got it, but I’ve fettled that now, so really looking forward to getting some runs out in better weather with the top down.

Have you done any upgrades or mods yourself?

Lozza57 I’ve PM’d you…

The Zsport that you were considering in January is still there in June and it’s now advertised at £5,999. If anybody is considering it they might wish to consider the following points.

It has over 70,000 miles and the only service history that anybody can find is the pre-delivery inspection in 2007

All four wheels are kerbed quite badly, one to within an inch of it’s life

It has numerous stone chips and scratches including a long deep scratch on the bonnet. The sort of scratch that if you shout into you hear an echo

There is a small scrape from the nosecone to the NSF wing

There is rust bubbling on the OSF wing

There is rust bubbling on the NSR wing

There is a kink at the front of the NS door

The OS rear light cluster is cracked

The leather steering wheel is frayed

Looking underneath all the bits that should be black or silver are brown

It’s got a matching set of four ‘Infinity’ (ditch finder) tyres

Sorry I can’t tell you what it’s like under the bonnet because I was frightened to look

Sorry I can’t tell you how it runs because by the time the dealer told me it might not start because the battery was on the way out I was too traumatised by the way some people abuse MX-5s

On the bright side it has got both Zsport badges. God knows how they have stayed on through the abuse that this poor car has suffered

Thanks for the update on the above. I discounted that one in my search, glad I did, shocking how some folk treat such a nice Mx5 or any car for that matter.

Better looking one here, http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2007-07-MAZDA-MX-5-Z-SPORT-2-0-/171052594768?pt=Automobiles_UK&hash=item27d3877650

Check the registration. It’s  the same car that is also advertised at Holmefirth Garage. I’ve looked at it. Two wheels with slight kerbing that have been reasonably well repaired. I would be happy with them. The odd stone chip but very nicely touched in. Otherwise very nice looking very straight car. Can’t find any rust or dints or scratches. Service history for first two years up to 12,000 miles, nothing with proof after that. Supposedly serviced by a friend but nothing to prove it. I would say that the one owner has looked after it very well and it will have been serviced but without proof it knocks the future value. Holmefirth would do it serviced and 3 months warranty without a trade in for £8000. At least that’s what they told me about a fortnight ago. I’m getting a Zsport. Not 100% sure yet which one. I’m looking at one next Sunday that I think will be stunning with zero issues. I’ve got first dibs so not telling you which one. If I don’t have that I have looked at one today that is so much better than anything I’ve seen so far. When I’ve done the deal all will be revealed and I might even let you know about the other one!

Thanks for the heads up on that car. Yes if you choose one let me know about the other. I’m sort of leaning towards a 20th anniversary model at the moment, got around 3 earmarked to take a closer look at. Thing is I change my mind a good deal, one day I may stick with my Mk2 RS which is how I want it, and another day go look for a Mk3/3.5. Other things have cropped up to delay car hunting just lately as well. Plus I don’t like going to dealers either, my last secondhand car purchase (not MX5) from a local dealer was far from a happy affair even though they are a big national group type of place. If they as so much approach me within seconds of appearing on their forcourts with waffle I’m off out of there. And also what looks a promising car on the internet, in the flesh turns out to be no so good, even though they want top dollar.

Anyway happy Z sport hunting.

 Clapping hands in the air

Well as you can see by the new avatar I have only gone and bagged myself a blindingly beautiful Zsport. I had looked at two cars at dealers and enquired about numerous others on eBay and Autotrader. Major issues with condition and history with most of them, minor issues with one which I was seriously considering. Then I decided to try a different tack and stuck a post on the forum on the off chance that somebody might be considering selling their car. I had two responses both of which I looked at and both were far better than anything else I had found anywhere. So what have I got? It’s a two owner car, just over 15,000 miles, full history, lovingly looked after, tasteful extras and everything I could have hoped for. The only downside of the deal is that I’ve bought it from the very man that started this thread, Barry Zsport. He’s only gone and bought a Merc SLK so he’s probably not going to be hanging about on the forum any more. Sad It turned out to be one of the strangest used car buying experiences ever. By the time I had chance to go down from Lincoln to Sidcup to have a look at the car I had been conversing with Barry via e-mail and Whatsapp for about a fortnight. First time I met him and the car he was already a friend. My wife Elaine spent about an hour drinking coffee and chatting with Barry’s wife Christina and they got on like a house on fire too. I’ve finished up with a stunning car and a bloody good mate.

Barry’s car cleaning standards take some living up to. He even cleans the bit of the alloys behind the spokes. Tyres were all dressed too when I picked it up. Even the original mats are unmarked because he always had another set on top to keep them that way! Well 170 miles home and the front was covered with flies and there was even a bit of brake dust on the wheels. Barry would have sorted that out before he even went indoors. Not me, I’ve been driving and having fun, fun, fun. It’s taken me a whole eight days to getting round to giving it a full wash and polish. I must say it looks just as beautiful as ever. Yes Barry, I did do the back of the wheels. It’s usually the first wash and polish when you find a few niggling issues that you hadn’t noticed before but not this time. I just love it.

So what have I changed? Fitted my hard drive to the Kenwood head unit that Barry had already installed so I’ve got lots of music on board. Changed the rear speakers for a proper set of two way full range units so they are actually audible! It’s already got chrome filler cap and rear light surrounds so I’ve added chrome covers to the roll hoops to finish the rear end chrome look. Oh and there’s an MX5OC logo and lettering just below the rear plate. That will do me for now.

After today’s vacuum, wash and polish fest on both the Merlot and the Zsport I took one last picture of the two of them together. The Merlot is on eBay ending Sunday so somebody else is going to be having fun with it. I’ll make sure whoever wins it get details of the owners club.

Always name our cars and nothing seemed to spring to mind with the Zsport. Then I thought, dark coloured bodywork with a beautiful sheen, lots of sparkly adornments, bit wide from the back but beautifully curvy, makes you smile when it moves. Beyoncé it is then!

Thanks Barry. Salute

I am envious.

Been looking at this model as you know and recently noticed Barry had mentioned somewhere about  him selling it for the Merc. Glad it’s gone to a club member and got a good home. It does look in excellent condition.

Have sent you a PM.
