0W-20 vs 5W-30

  1. My model of MX-5 is: __ RF 2.0L 2018 30k Miles

I have my car booked in with the local garage and quote included 0W-20W which I think is the norm.
However I know some use 5W-30, so question is what’s the difference if any really. I only drive the car at weekends mainly and never track day or drive hard car has been serviced at Main dealer for last 3 years. So is there really any reason to use one oil over the other.

Both Mazda main dealers that I have used to service our cars have used a none Mazda 5w-30 oil. It is shown as an alternative in the ‘manual’ and I have never experienced any problems.

The Mazda dealer I went to for services 1-4 used 5w-30
The Mazda dealer I use now, for services 5&6 use 0w-20

Can’t say I’ve noticed one ounce of a difference, in engine sound/smoothness or fuel economy.

Either will be fine, in theory 0w20 will give better economy, in the real world 2/3 hard accelerations will probably consume any difference you get.
