1.6 engine technical specifications?

Hi everyone.

I am currently in the process of rebuilding a replacement engine for my NB MX5. i have an 03, 1.6 block currently torn down in my workshop waiting for me to measure up new parts/ machine work

however, i cannot for the life of me find any information specifically relating to the crankshaft bearings or any other bearings for that matter for the 1.6 block.

all the tech manuals i can find are for the BP 1.8 engine. are the same spec bearings and clearances used in both?

my haynes manual doesn’t seem to list the main bearing clearances, at least from what i can see!

i am a bit lost at this point, can someone help me? i would really like the spec for crankshaft journals and the main bearing clearances, so i can order up some nice new ACL ones

also, on another note, while removing the crankshaft, i dropped a bolt onto it… i know, im an idiot… left 3 super tiny dents. here are a couple pics, do you recon i should just get a machine shop to polish up the crank or just knock the high points off myself?

crank dents

(more pics here: http://imgur.com/a/zbrMK the pics are huge)

they are pretty hard to get the camera to focus on, and i honestly did not see the other 2 smaller ones until i was looking through the camera.

there is a hair or something in the oil i coated the crank with in a couple of these, ignore. it the tiny dents you can just see below it.

Cheers guys,

Alex

Not a help but most info comes from the stateside manuals and I assume that the NB was never imported into the states with a 1.6 engine. Therefore the US manual would only cover the 1.8 engine.

You have three options:

  1. Use a manual for the 1.6 MK1 which I assume, note the word “assume” will give you the numbers you want from the 1.6 NA and are the same for the 1.6 NB.

  2. Log onto the Mazda European Portal and pay to get into the technical area, 5 euro an hour and look for the info there.

  1. Go to an engine machine shop, they will have information to regrind all makes of crankshaft which they will get from their auto data supplier.

Ok, cheers. might hop onto the mazda site and take a look!
